The world is complicated. Or rather, the world seems complicated. When in fact it is much simpler than it seems, and so are the solutions, unless the solutions make you feel uncomfortable. Then our brains want to protect us from the discomfort, causing us to avoid the solution.

Take a chance. Go for the solution. The discomfort will pass. And you will be better off than ever.

Leadership is fostering, not forcing

Leadership is hard!

It’s hard because to do it well you need to balance the ego boosting trappings of your position with the ego offending practice of asking for the advice and opinions of those you lead. Then, in the end, taking responsibility for making a decision that not everyone will be able to enthusiastically support.

This is the core of why, in my opinion, leadership is rare. It’s easy to understand the quality. It’s easy to agree with the qualities. It is not easy at all to practice the qualities consistently.

Choosing what thoughts you focus on.
Choosing who you spend time with.
Choosing what media you pay attention to.

These choices influence your thoughts and attitudes.
And your thoughts and attitudes direct your future.

Choose your connections wisely.
You don’t control what’s around you.
But you do control your potential.
