Just as the old, dead wood in the forest needs to burn away for the forest to grow, the dead parts of ourselves, the past needs to die and burn away for us to grow as well.

Kylo Ren is not my favourite, but this line of his has some merit. The past does not always die on its own. We often need to attack it, challenge it, journal and talk about it for us to learn the lesson and move on, kill it and let it die. We don't need it any longer.

If we want to grow into the person we wish to be, we need to be able to let go of the past so it doesn't trip us up.

This is a quote that when I understood it and took it to heart, it really started turning my life around.

When I was younger, I didn't care much for myself. I didn't think about my future or my health, partially because it only effected "me." I didn't question the idea of myself or consider a version of me who didn't feel the same.

Once I started thinking of who I *could* be as related to, but not the same as my current self, I began making choices thinking about who he could be. I started treating myself as the precursor to my future self and treated myself like I was responsible for developing him.

How many things are you putting off for tomorrow? Why not start today?

What are some habits that you know are harming you? Why do you choose to keep them in your life?

Our daily actions carve out our path in life. We don't get to choose everything, but we have a lot of opportunities to make a choice. Why do we choose what we do? Is it serving us, or is it just easier? more comfortable? less intimidating?

You deserve to be healthy, happy and feel fulfilled. Much of that is tied to the choices you make every day. You can't transform your life overnight, or in a fortnight, but if you try to make choices that benefit a future version of you, you'd be surprised by how quickly it all changes for the better.

I look back to myself just a couple years ago and don't recognize who I see. The choices and investments I made back then for the sake of myself today are still paying dividends and will continue to do so into the future. So if you have yet started, why not start today?

Your health is in your hands. Use as many tools as you have at your disposal to improve it because it's what you deserve.

We are the sum of our experiences in life. The people we spend time with and what we do in our leisure time are of great importance in this regard.

By selecting friends and habits with this in mind, we have a lot of power in the life we live.

There are a matter of factors we cannot change, but that highlights the importance of selecting the things we can more carefully. Never give into hopelessness, we always have a choice and we should choose better whenever we can.

We should seek to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference

When I first began taking the clay of my life into my own hands and molding it into a life I could feel proud of, I found it difficult to maintain relationships with people in my life who were content with the way we were spending our lives.

It can be difficult to start making changes when everyone around you are remaining the same. I began feeling like I didn't fit in with these people when I didn't have anything to contribute to conversations about video games or TV.

I didn't feel like I could join in on nihilistic talks about how bad life or the world was. The negativity was not something I could be around for the sake of my own health.

I needed to create distance from the online games, the drinking and the complaining. It wasn't the life I wanted to live.

There's a reason why when airplanes go down that you put the oxygen mask on yourself first. There's a reason you don't try to save a drowning person flailing by grabbing onto them, but instead by using your feet to push them. We need to help ourselves before we can help others.

Unless you have dependent children or parents, your first priority should usually be yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup and if the people around you keep trying to take from you or knock it over and are never filling your cup, then you need to find better people to spend time around. People who legitimately love you and want what's best for you.

I've always found in my adult life that whenever I've learned something "new" and important my thought has always been "that makes sense" and it rarely feels like new information

It feels more like people reminding me of things I had already known and forgotten, or that I had never heard before, but that made so much sense with the things I knew that I should have been able to put it together on my own.

I think that most healthy choices make sense to people and that they know what to do. They're not always easy to do, but they're simple and usually straightforward. Ex*****on is the issue.

We all have defenders in our way when it comes to making these choices, some have much more skilled point guards than others, but you'll find as you practice overcoming these defenders, it gets easier and easier to do what your body asks you to do

It's worth treating yourself like you do a child or pet that you love and want what's best for. Like someone you're responsible for taking care of... because you are.

Discipline, along with the ability to make a decision are two of the most important abilities we can learn and imbue in others.
By having the confidence to make a decision and the discipline to follow through, a multitude of avenues open up to us.

Discipline is what keeps us consistent and living the kind of life we want to and helps us remain true to ourselves

Sometimes discipline means doing things we don't want to. Getting out of bed first thing in the morning and into a cold shower isn't something I *want* to do, but it's what keeps me on the path I've decided for myself.
Sometimes I'm tired and don't want to work out, but I do it anyways.

The little voice inside your head trying to pull you this way and that way or telling you "that's too hard" or "I don't want to do that" isn't you. That's the voice that tells you to stay in bed, to eat that human feed you know you shouldn't. Listening to that voice isn't freedom, it's slavery.

Anyone who has maintained a gym routine can tell you all about how it fills up early January and is back to normal by February because people can maintain the routine.
People try to go cold turkey or change everything all at once and think they can keep it up, but it is a very rare kind of person who can do this.

When trying to make improvements in your life, you should make slow, manageable adjustments. Want to wake up earlier? 15 minutes a week. What's your rush?

The best routine is the one you can sustain. If you train as hard as possible for a week and then crash, then you get nowhere. Make it sustainable
