🧩 Chronic Illness Isn’t Always What It Seems

At BioHeal Ottawa, we understand that many chronic conditions — from fatigue, brain fog, gut issues, hormonal imbalance, to autoimmune flare-ups — often stem from a combination of factors: infections, toxins (like heavy metals or mold), environmental stressors, and lifestyle triggers.

That’s why our approach doesn’t just “manage symptoms” — we go deeper. Through our 3-phase process (Foundational → Microbial → Restoration), we aim to restore balance from the inside out.

✨ Whether you’re just curious about why you feel “off,” or you’ve been searching for answers for years — the first step is often to get a full picture. Book a consultation and let’s start uncovering what’s behind your symptoms. Clinic contact information can be found in the Linktr.ee in the bio.

The new school year is here and it’s the perfect time to prioritize your health and wellness. At BioHeal Ottawa, we understand that busy schedules, long study sessions, and early mornings can take a toll on your body and mind. Here are some tips to help you feel your best this year:

Prioritize Your Energy

Fatigue can sneak up quickly, especially when balancing school, work, and family. Make time for proper rest, balanced meals, and gentle movement to keep your energy levels steady.

Support Your Body Naturally

Our bodies work best when we care for them. Simple habits like staying hydrated, incorporating whole foods, and listening to your body’s needs can make a big difference in your daily wellness.

Reduce Stress and Boost Focus

Even a few minutes of mindful breathing, stretching, or meditation each day can help clear your mind and improve concentration. Consider keeping a small routine that allows you to pause and recharge.

Plan Ahead for Wellness

Small proactive steps go a long way. Regular check-ins with your health team can help identify any minor concerns before they become bigger issues, keeping you at your healthiest throughout the school year.

Make Self-Care a Habit

Consistency is key. Whether it’s a short morning stretch, an evening walk, or a nutritious breakfast, building healthy habits into your daily routine creates a strong foundation for long-term wellness.

At BioHeal Ottawa, we’re here to support you with personalized guidance and treatments that help your body perform at its best. Take this school year as an opportunity to invest in your health and well-being. You deserve it!

The American dog tick is a large, reddish-brown hard tick.

In Canada, it is found from Alberta in the west as far east as Nova Scotia and has increasingly pushed west and north in the last decades.

This tick is known to transmit Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and tularaemia (Rabbit Fever) although only rarely in western Canada.

Additionally, many studies, based on thousands of tick tests have confirmed that the American dog tick are almost never infected with the Lyme disease bacteria.

While this is good news it is important to know your tick species in order to understand your disease risk.

And, as always would love to thank The University of Rhode Island and for the bounty of information they share on Ticks. Information sharing, knowing your risks and how to safeguard against them is so important.

If you have been bitten by a tick or are experiencing symptoms of Lyme disease book in at BioHeal Ottawa with one of our Lyme Informed Naturopathic Doctors. Contact information can be found in our Linktr.ee in the bio!

There are over 40 species of ticks in Canada but the ticks that causes the greatest concern are the black-legged tick found east of the Rocky Mountains and the Western black-legged tick found west of the Rocky Mountains. Not all black-legged & Western black-legged ticks carry, Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. The estimated percentage of this species carrying Borrelia burgdorferi can be less than 1% and up to 50%, depending on the geographic location.

The best defense when it comes to Lyme disease is a good offence – be prepared when going out in nature and get in the habit of doing on yourself, children and pets when you arrive home.

Most people who contract Lyme disease from:
1️⃣Nymphs, which are about the size of a poppy seed.
2️⃣Adult female ticks, which are about the size of a sesame seed.

⭕️You may not notice a tick bite because ticks are tiny and their bites are usually painless.

Both the poppy seed-sized nymph stage and the larger adult female stage are responsible for transmitting diseases such as Lyme disease, , and .

The lifecycle of the blacklegged & Western blacklegged tick is two-three years. Adult male & female ticks are most active May - October – but can remain active year-round if temperatures remain above freezing.

And a big thank you to the University of Rhode Island and their program for the incredible visual of nymph stage ticks vs poppy seed! We may never eat poppy seed bagels again!
