Oksana is a doctor of medicine (Europe). She has a background as a former orthopedic surgeon, with 18 years of experience in performing orthopedic and trauma surgeries, as well as administering pain blocks and injections for neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Oksana's accumulated medical knowledge and experience served as a solid foundation for her transition to Osteopathy in 2018. She graduated with honors from the Southern Ontario College of Osteopathy in Mississauga. During her study, Oksana conducted research and wrote a thesis on osteopathic treatments for hip joint pain due to osteoarthritis.

In her osteopathic practice, Oksana specializes in helping pediatric, adult (including pregnant women), and elderly patients with neurological conditions, reducing joint pain, restoring joint mobility and muscle energy, and improving body biomechanics.
Continuously mastering a comprehensive approach to patient care, Oksana uses osteopathic, visceral, cranial techniques, and laser therapy in her practice.

Adult Patients see Oksana for a wide range of conditions including back pain, neck pain, headaches, joint and muscle pain, sleep problems, snoring, digestive problems, pelvic, hip, and leg problems, numbness in fingers or lower extremities, and general wellness.

Osteopathic medicine is based on the philosophy that all systems in the body are interconnected, and that dysfunction in one system can lead to problems in other systems. Osteopaths use gentle manual techniques to address imbalances in the body and restore its natural state of health.

One key idea in this field is that many diseases result from, or cause, problems within the body's musculoskeletal system, which includes nerves, muscles, bones, arteries, nerves, and lymphatic vessels.

Some of these problems exist from birth (consequences of cesarean section, birth dysfunctions, traumas, torticollis, hypertonicity, developmental delays, etc.). Other problems arise during adolescence or adulthood as a result of lifestyle or injuries (bowel disorders, incorrect posture, scoliosis, fast fatigue, visual impairment, flat feet, stuttering, enuresis, pain in the lower back, knees, neck; neurological diseases, osteochondrosis, arthritis, etc.)

When one organ or system in the body is not functioning properly, other systems may start to compensate for this imbalance. For example, poor posture can lead to uneven strain on the back muscles, causing them to contract on one side and stretch on the other. To compensate for these changes, the body may change its stance and movements to redistribute the load on other muscles and joints. This can lead to compensatory imbalances and additional problems such as neck pain, headaches, or hip pain. If compensation continues over a prolonged period of time, it can lead to more serious problems, as a result, the patient lives with pain, discomfort, and inner tension.

An Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP) takes a holistic, whole-body approach to healthcare, aims to harmonize body biomechanics and restore its natural state of health, strengthen the body's immune system and increase its resistance to disease, reduce the strain on compensatory mechanisms, and eliminate the root cause of the problem, not just its painful projections or specific parts or symptoms.

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is a drug-free, non-invasive, and gentle manual therapy, it does not use HVLA techniques (“cracking”). The specialist diagnoses tense areas with the hands and, delicately, works on the deep structures of the body: soft tissues, ligaments, muscles and bones, and even the brain.

OMP can even treat children, and pregnant women, and help their patients achieve optimal health of various body systems, such as the nervous, musculoskeletal, respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, lymphatic, and endocrine systems.

During your treatment, you will remain fully clothed so we ask that you wear loose clothing that is easy to move in (please no dresses or skirts).

❓How long is an osteopathic treatment?

The duration of an osteopathic treatment varies depending on the appointment type.
For pediatric patients under 10 years of age, the appointment lasts 30 minutes.
For kids older than 10 years old and adult patients, the first session typically lasts for 60 minutes and the follow-up appointment lasts 30-60 minutes.

❓What should I wear for treatment?

During your treatment, you will remain fully clothed so it might be a good idea to choose comfortable and loose clothing that allows for easy movement and range of motion. Gym clothes, lounge clothes, or other comfortable attire is appropriate (please no dresses or skirts).

❓What’s the difference between Osteopathy and Chiropractic?

Chiropractic and osteopathy are both focused on the musculoskeletal system, but they have differences in their approach, philosophy, and techniques.
Chiropractors often use spinal adjustments and manipulations signature HVLA techniques, known as "cracking”, and may also use additional therapies such as ultrasound, and electrical stimulation.
Osteopathy, on the other hand, takes a more holistic approach, considering the entire body and the interconnectedness of its parts.
Osteopathic practitioners are trained to address the root cause of a patient's pain or discomfort and aim to restore the body's natural balance and function. They use techniques such as manual manipulations, soft tissue mobilization, and therapeutic exercises to help the body heal itself.

❓If I am already receiving care from a chiropractor, RMT, or physio, how can Osteopathy complement my treatment?

Osteopathy can provide a new perspective on a problem, particularly when it has been difficult to resolve. While each medical approach has its own strengths, Osteopathy stands out with its whole-body approach to every situation. Instead of focusing on the disorder, Osteopathy treats the individual, which allows the body to naturally self-heal and self-regulate to address the issue at hand. In this way, Osteopathy approaches each problem by prioritizing the individual's well-being.

❓How often should I see an Osteopathic Practitioner?
The frequency of osteopathic appointments depends on the individual's condition, health goals, and response to treatment.
In general, Osteopathy is a patient-centered approach, which means that the frequency of appointments can be tailored to meet the needs of each individual.
For acute conditions, such as recent injuries or flare-ups of chronic conditions, more frequent appointments may be necessary to address the issue and help the body heal.
For chronic conditions, ongoing maintenance appointments may be recommended to manage symptoms and prevent further complications.
During the initial consultation and treatment, a practitioner will assess the individual's condition and develop a treatment plan that includes a recommended frequency of appointments.
As treatment progresses, the practitioner will evaluate the individual's progress and adjust the frequency of appointments as needed.
It is important to follow the recommended treatment plan and attend appointments regularly to achieve the best possible results. However, it is also important to communicate with the osteopath about any concerns or changes in the condition to adjust the treatment plan accordingly.

❓ Do I need a General Practitioner referral?

No, you do not need a referral from a general practitioner to see an Osteopath in Ontario. Osteopaths are considered primary care providers in Ontario and can be seen without a referral. However, some insurance companies may require a referral from a therapist for coverage, so it's always a good idea to check with your insurance company before making an appointment.

❓ Can I claim treatments through my private health Insurance?

Yes, it is possible to claim Osteopathic treatments through private health insurance in Ontario. However, the specific coverage and reimbursement for Osteopathic treatments can vary depending on the insurance plan and provider.
Some plans may require a doctor's referral, while others may cover a certain number of treatments per year or have a maximum amount that can be claimed.
If you are planning to see an Osteopath/Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and would like to use your insurance coverage, it is important to contact your insurance provider to confirm your coverage and any requirements for reimbursement.
You should also make sure that the specialist you plan to see is registered with the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (NMOS) to ensure that your treatments will be covered by your insurance plan.

Oksana is registered with NMOS Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and her appointment is covered by insurance in most cases.

Specifically, osteopathic medicine is based on the following ideas or tenets, as approved by the American Osteopathic Association:
!!!The body is a unit; a person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit.
!!!The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance.
!!!Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.
!!!Rational treatment is based on understanding the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.
