Embracing, hugging, wrapping with arms is one of the first feelings and gestures parents teach children. It is giving and receiving love, care, presence, and deep connection.
Average adult hug lasts sbout 10 seconds. This is time we offer the other person to know us, feel us, be loved, cared, and to invoke connection!
Do we feel embarrassed, shy, vulnerable, but also fulfilled and happy with just a tap on the shoulder?!….
Perhaps 10 seconds is enough to bring up uncomfortably feelings, memories that hurt, shyness, and also pleasure that we hide deep inside?…
We can hug with our arms, but we can also hug with our hearts! The mix of both can be a gentle statement of confidant presence, genuine interest, and an invitation to open up snd be vulnerable with one another.
The art of hugging goes beyond just a touch…. It is human psychology of giving and receiving, acceptance of self and others, boundaries, presence, and comfort level with oneself and others.
Hugging is necessary body language and a need that involves deep and conscious expression of self.
