Student Alliance for Mental Health (SAMH)

Student Alliance for Mental Health (SAMH) Working from an anti-oppressive lens, SAMH strives to expand our understanding of mental health and diversify the discussions we hold around it.

Through our collaboration with Carleton Administration, SAMH also advocates to improve mental health services. Are you concerned about mental health issues among young people, and in the Carleton community? Do you want to help raise awareness of mental illness, and fight back the stigma and silence that too often surround it? Then consider getting involved with Carleton University’s Student Alliance for Mental Health. As a participant, you can put in as much or as little time as you are able. Active involvement in the Working Group will be eligible for your Co-Curricular Record. If you’d like to get involved, contact samhcarleton@gmail.com

'Like Hunter, many autistic adults struggle to receive good care from doctors and hospitals. These individuals often find it difficult to communicate with healthcare professionals and are misunderstood or ignored. They’re less likely to have their routine health needs met, from dental check-ups to tetanus vaccinations. “I think that as an autistic person, I’ve had to habituate to other people’s rules and comfort levels,” Hunter says.'

Adults on the spectrum frequently have a range of other conditions — but they rarely get the help they need

Hey, Carleton students! If you currently access, have accessed in the past, or are waiting to access counselling on campus, consider submitting a testimonial in support of our campus counsellors as they picket for their pensions with their union, CUPE 2424!

Let the University know why mental health services on campus are important to you and a vital service for students.

Wish there were an easier, cheaper way to find a counsellor? We think Inkblottherapy's video counselling services is worth checking out!

Their 1-on-1 counselling sessions are half the average cost in Canada and most of their counsellors can accept private insurance. For Carleton students, this means your student health plan almost completely covers a half-hour session, which runs at $37.50 across the board.

The initial booking process for a 1-on-1 session lets you specify what expertise you'd like your counsellor to have, and it gives you a chance to explain any other specifics you're seeking in your own words. You are then given a selection of counsellors who best match your needs.

And all this without even having to get out of bed. Which is the main reason we think it's worth a shot. 😉

(InkBlot is a new and growing organisation, so if you find you've got feedback on how they can refine their services or make them more accessible, email them at support@inkblottherapy.com to let them know!)

Completely secure and affordable video counselling with a psychotherapist selected for you based on your needs and preferences. Get help any time, any place. You deserve to feel better.
