When your first aid kit only has two Band-Aids, it’s not just "helth"—it’s a major legal liability.
In Ontario, Regulation 1101 of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) requires every business to maintain a fully stocked first aid station. A handful of Band-Aids doesn't meet the minimum standards, which are strictly dictated by your workforce size.
Minimum Kit Requirements (Regulation 1101)
1-5 Employees: Requires at least 12 adhesive dressings, 4 gauze pads, 2 gauze rolls, 2 field dressings, safety pins, and a current first aid manual.
6-15 Employees: Requires 24 adhesive dressings, 12 gauze pads, multiple sizes of gauze rolls, 6 triangular bandages, splints, and splint padding.
16-200 Employees: Includes 48 adhesive dressings, 48 gauze pads, a basin, 12 rolls of gauze, a stretcher, and two blankets.
Why Compliance Matters
Legal Fines: Failing to provide adequate supplies can lead to stiff consequences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Mandatory Inspections: Employers must inspect first aid kits at least four times a year to ensure they are properly stocked and sign the inspection card.
Trained Personnel: A well-stocked kit is useless without a certified first aider. Every workplace must have at least one worker on-site with a valid certificate from a WSIB-approved provider.
Don’t wait for an accident to realize your "helth" is missing! Keep your workplace safe and compliant by auditing your kits today.
