The Centre for Health Innovation

The Centre for Health Innovation The CHI provides evidence-informed integrative medicine, research, and education across the spectrum of health care conditions.

Our approach emphasizes quality of life, support for the body, care of the spirit, and active prevention of disease The Centre for Health Innovation very recently came into being on October 15, 2020. This is the new home for the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre and expands on the services provided to a wide array of chronic and acute health conditions that can be helped through integrative medicine. Our website provides a much richer description of the services and practitioners available for support. Please check this out at www.thechi.ca . With respect to cancer care, our team works with patients and their families to help decrease the side effects of cancer treatment; improve the energy, well being and overall quality of health; balance the body’s immune system; support the mind, body and spirit in the healing process; and provide strategies (support) for cancer prevention and health maintenance. We do this through nutrition and lifestyle counselling, Intravenous (IV) therapy, registered massage therapy, physiotherapy, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

What Would Feed Your Soul Today? Self care in these changing times.

It feels important to find ways to anchor ourselves in our daily self-care needs, especially with all the upheaval in our world leaving our ground feeling unsteady. Reflecting on the things that can ground us in the moment are crucial in setting a foundation for the ways we care for ourselves.

We invite you to read this blog by Amber Young, CHI's Massage Therapist & Yoga Teacher:

We asked "what mattered most" to participants of our Inspire Now for lung cancer program:

1. CONNECTION with others who understand
2. KNOWLEDGE to navigate their journey

For people with lung cancer, these needs often go unmet. That's why Inspire Now exists. Inspire Now is free for every participant, but sustaining this program requires support.

To help provide free access to Inspire Now, and other programs such as Head Start for breast cancer, please consider donating to these Online Mind-Body Programs. Thank You!

Compassionate Grief Support

Grief can be especially difficult at this time of year. The holiday season can amplify feelings, making it even more important to seek support.

Are you in need of support? If so, we invite you to reach out. Our team of therapists are here to walk alongside you:

https://thechi.ca/grief-support

We are all susceptible to grief. It can affect every aspect of our lives. Grief is how we feel in response to experiencing loss, such as the death of a loved one, loss of one’s health, physical function or independence, relationship changes, financial hardship, trauma and abuse, major life transitions, loss of dreams or expectations.

Our Story

We Are Expanding into General Healthcare and Opening a New Facility in the New Year

Nearly 10 years ago, the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC) opened its doors as the first integrative and cancer care research centre in Eastern Canada. The OICC has operated as a regional centre of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) to develop and research an integrative model of care for cancer patients. Today, we are excited to announce the clinic portion of the OICC is ready to start a new chapter in its growth. The OICC is transitioning to independence, expanding care beyond cancer and moving to a new location within Ottawa! The Centre for Health Innovation (The CHI) and its healthcare team will continue to provide integrative, supportive cancer care, while expanding the clinic to meet the needs of many other health challenges faced by people today.

In addition to cancer care, we will be supporting those challenged with other chronic and acute health care needs including mental health, thyroid health, women’s health, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions, obesity and more. General health promotion, improved quality of life, disease prevention and management, lifestyle counselling and group support, will continue to underpin everything we do. Our healthcare team is committed to be, and help you discover, Your key to good health! The CHI is the vision of Dr. Dugald Seely, ND, MSc., who also founded the OICC in 2011. While this new clinic will operate separately from CCNM, the collaborative research arm between these institutions will continue to help shape the future of naturopathic and integrative medicine in Canada. Dr. Seely, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The CHI, will be remaining on staff at CCNM as the Executive Director of its Research & Clinical Epidemiology division, along with his Ottawa and Toronto-based research team. “I am excited to see the OICC clinic move into the next phase of its operation,” said Bob Bernhardt, President and CEO for CCNM. “It was born in 2011, expanded its reach and reputation in the intervening years, and is now transitioning to independence.” Stay tuned for more details on our transition and move! Rest assured we will be keeping you updated through our clinic, e-newsletter, social media, and please visit our new website! www.thechi.ca
