This week I was at the Community Conversation presenting about Agriculture and Mental Health.

Although, I am a local service provider and work with many clients that are struggling with their mental health, I would love to see policy support preventative measures for our community. I addressed some of the root causes of mental health struggles and challenged the City of Ottawa to address such items like: protecting rural lands that support Agricultural operations, ensuring rural voices have equal representation at the council table on rural issues, ensuring that Farmers are seen as CEOs just like an urban based CEO would be seen, having good working relationships with local farmers and farming organizations to ensure that when crisis hits, timely and effective supports can be assessed and implemented.

As a Registered Nurse, Psychotherapist, preventative care and initiatives are just as important to me as working with you in the practice. No one wants to struggle with their mental health. By addressing common root causes systemically, the stresses on one’s mental health will decrease.

Huge thanks to our incredible guest speakers—Bonnie Schroeder, Ken Holmes, and Courtney Argue —for sharing their insights at our West Carleton community conversation!

We explored important topics like rural aging, mental health in our farming community, and innovative transportation solutions.
Grateful for the great turnout and meaningful discussion! Looking forward to better ways to support and strengthen community!

I am so proud to share that I have been asked to speak once again at an event being held by Dare To Be Vulnerable Project at Stanley’s Olde Maple Farm on November 20 at 5-8pm.

This event is open to everyone however, it will have a focus on opening the conversation around Mental Health in our rural communities.

It can be incredibly difficult to talk about your mental health journey vulnerably. Last year this event proved to me that Susan Blain has created a safe space to facilitate these conversations. The journey includes feeling the sorrows of low times, empathy from personal similar situations, the joys of both small and large victories and above all you have the opportunity to feel the power of our rural communities coming together to Rise Up to the stigma that plagues us.

If you are looking for an incredibly raw, informative and powerful experience, this is for you. Come join us.

Let's come together for open, honest chats with our rural community!

We were supporting Stonecrest Elementary School with helping them to reach their goal of getting a new play structure this evening.

It was wonderful to see everyone and to be able to continue to spread the word that we indeed do have mental health services in our rural area! ☺️

I am excited to announce that I have officially become an RN Prescriber through our regulatory college.

What does this mean?

As a Registered Nurse, Prescriber I have the ability to prescribe certain medications outlined by my regulatory college. To ensure this is done safely and competently, I will be undergoing more education and developing programs that I think will help create a healthier community.

Stay tuned!

A recent reminder that every client is different. With this, every session will be different from the next.

Sessions can be calm and reflective for one client. The next client, we might be taking out the speakers and listening to a favourite song on top volume.

One of the great privileges I have as a nurse, is realizing that healing comes in many forms. Embracing this is key.

Last but not least Tip 5. Do you ever feel like your wheels are spinning not able to get traction on goals that are not time based? By adding the 'Timely' element into your goal, you can then make an appropriate roadmap to that end goal.
