Today, on International Women’s Day, we recognize the leadership, contributions, and lasting impact of women in nursing across Canada and around the world.

Nursing remains a profession largely led by women: women who provide care, advocate for patients, strengthen communities, and help shape the future of our health systems.

This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that progress is built when we support one another, through mentorship, advocacy, and collective action.

As we celebrate the contributions of women in nursing, we must also continue working toward safer workplaces, equitable opportunities, and stronger health systems for the generations that follow.

As nursing students and future nurses, we are committed to carrying this work forward - supporting one another, advocating for equity, and helping build a profession where every voice is valued.

Nursing students from across Canada came together to honour and remember Nurse Alex Pettri. This vigil provided space for reflection, collective mourning, and solidarity, as our community gathered to pay tribute and support one another.

We were honoured to have been joined by the President of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), along with nursing leaders from across Canada, who stood together in remembrance and respect.

As we continue to grieve, we also reaffirm our shared commitment to healing, remembrance, and advocacy, ensuring that compassion, safety, and care remain central to the nursing profession.
