“Thanks for the new equipment and beds, but, unfortunately, we lack the outlets to plug it in.”

Without basic electrical and mechanical upgrades, hospitals cannot safely plug in new diagnostic equipment, digital tools or security systems that protect patient information and keep services online.

HealthCareCAN recommends the new Health Infrastructure Fund give critical priority to fix aging health infrastructure, so that there is no delay is getting Canadians the healthcare they deserve.

Many of Canada’s hospitals were built in the 1970s and their electrical, plumbing, and heating systems are long overdue for upgrades and modernization. If problems and failures occur, it can mean delayed and cancelled surgeries for patients and even more waiting.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Kirsty Duncan.

During her time as Minister of Science, HealthCareCAN had the privilege of working with her as she championed Canada’s research ecosystem, strengthened the role of science in public policy, and supported the people and institutions advancing discovery and innovation across the country.

Her work has left a lasting impact on Canada’s science and health landscape.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends and all who had the privilege of working with her.

Canada has one of the lowest acute care beds per capita compared to other OECD countries. This is a significant contributor to hospital overcrowding and hallway medicine.
