Chers patients,

Michelle Davidson, OD

Dear Patients,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for the continued privilege of looking after your vision and ocular health. I am delighted to tell you that I am expecting my first child in March and I am notifying you that I have commenced a maternity leave. Should my maternity leave progress as anticipated, it is my intention to return to work on a part time basis as of June 23rd 2014.

With a sincere commitment to providing you with continued quality care during the course of my leave, I am pleased to be referring you to my well-respected colleagues, Dr. Jay Mithani and Dr. John-Paul Muggeridge. We have all graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and I admire their thoughtful and thorough approach with patients in addition to their skill and passion as doctors of optometry.

During this interim, I would like to wish you all well and thank you for the kindness and support I have received from many of you already.

Best regards,

Michelle Davidson, OD

We are proud to now offer digital retinal photography! The computer-integrated digital imaging system allows us to record a detailed view of the retina as well as other structures that line the back of the eye. We are then able to store these photos in your file and compare them with the results of futures tests. In turn, this aids in the early detection and diagnosis of eye diseases, and allows us to initiate prompt treatments which reduce the risk of progression.

We would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Please note that the office will be closed until January 3rd 2012.

A lot of patients ask me: What is the difference between an optometrist, an ophthalmologist and an optician?

AN OPTOMETRIST diagnoses, treats and prevents diseases of the eye and vision systems. They write eyeglass/contact lens prescriptions and can provide, fit and adjust glasses and contacts. They can also prescribe therapeutic eyedrops and certain oral anti-infectives in the treatment of disorders of the eye and its related structures.

AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST is a physician who, upon graduation from medical school, undertakes more years of training in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. An ophthalmologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats ocular diseases by medical or surgical means. Some may give prescriptions for eyeglasses.

AN OPTICIAN provides, fits and adjusts eyeglasses and contact lenses based on the prescription of an optometrist or physician.
