MY ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE: TRANSITIONING FROM STUDENT TO PROFESSOR-DR. UKWATTA

CU@EMBS and CU@CMBES are excited to invite you to their Pints with Profs. seminar series where you learn about the various research fields available at Carleton University. Our first seminar is titled "My academic experience: Transitioning from student to professor" by Dr. Eranga Ukwatta.

Dr. Ukwatta joined Carleton University as an Assistant Professor in 2016. Prior to that, he was a multi-center postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (2013-2015) and Sunnybrook Research Institute (2014-2015). His primary research is driven by the emerging need for robust image analysis methodologies for patient-specific analysis and modeling of cardiovascular structure and function. He was a recipient of NSERC postdoctoral fellowship and JHU BME Centennial postdoctoral fellowship.

The talk is 20 minutes long followed by 10 minutes of Q/A. Dr. Ukwatta will then be happy to chat with you over a pint.

Date: Thursday, 17 November

Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Carleton University Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society would like to invite all graduate and undergraduate students to our "How to Network" Workshop.

University teaches a great many things, whether your focus is in engineering or the arts. Something that tends to be lost on the student, however, is the fine art of communication. Whether your objective is to find a job, book an interesting speaker for an event, or simply to gain knowledge in a new field, understanding how to take your virtual private network, turn it into a local area network and then into a wide area network is invaluable. This interactive workshop will give you some ideas about how to effectively communicate with others and to expand your personal and professional network.

The Carleton University Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society "How to Network" Workshop will be presented by Adam Freed, and will take place on Wednesday, March 25th 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.. in room ME 3328 at Carleton University. An informal gathering will be held at Mike's Place Pub after the event.

Please RSVP by Tuesday March 24th at http://goo.gl/forms/Cg9cRw0EwY

Adam Freed Biography:
Adam Freed graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from Concordia University in 1999 and went on to spend ten years working in research and development, sales, and project management in a variety of industries, including telecommunications and digitization outsourcing. He then returned to the academic world where he obtained a Master’s of Applied Science from Carleton University in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction in 2012. Adam has since taken his skills and knowledge to Algonquin College’s School of Health, Public Safety, and Community Studies, where he researches and implements new technologies, systems, and processes based on user needs.
