At Fitmama Strong, we believe beginner isn’t a level — it’s a season ❤️

A beginner isn’t someone who is out of shape or starting from zero. It’s simply someone who is building consistency and laying the foundation for long-term strength.

That means focusing on increasing overall movement, learning quality movement patterns, building confidence with bodyweight exercises first, and gradually adding resistance when the body is ready.

This is especially important in early postpartum, when the goal isn’t to “bounce back,” but to rebuild strength, improve range of motion, and reconnect with your body in a supportive environment.

Whether you join us in person for our early postpartum classes, log in to a live online workout, or press play on an on-demand session at home — you’ll be guided every step of the way.

There is no rush. No pressure. Just progress❤️

2016… What a year! It marked my 6th year of running my business.

Fitmama Strong classes were being held at the JCC, Southminster United Church & NECTAR (New Edinburgh), as well as at Westboro Beach, Brewer Park, Windsor Park and Rockcliffe Park.

Lindsay was teaching our Monday night Bootcamp class and Chantel began teaching the Saturday am classes. We were running Prenatal classes, Mama and Baby (babywearing fitness and stroller), as well as bootcamp style classes and all were busy! They were all in-person and I must have had a lot more energy 10 years ago! Thank goodness for Lindsay () and Chantel ()!

2016 was the first time that I ever had any professional photos done and did an excellent job taking them at 3 different classes - they were the photos that I used to create my updated website (it was the first time I’d ever built a website and I loved it!). Check out the baby who was on my landing page for years, a few slides in:) The second photo is of our longest standing Fitmama member, Kim - almost 15 years strong!

Columbia sponsored me for the Mud Hero run, that I did with Chris and then a few of my early and long-standing Fitmamas ran the Army 5K together for the first time. I also joined up with some neighbourhood women to fundraise for and participate in Bust-a-Move for Breast Health and I coached my daughter's ringette team's off-ice fitness sessions.

On the personal side, 2016 was the year that both of my kids stopped playing soccer and we found ourselves with a whole summer ahead of us, sport free! (They kept playing basketball and ringette during the school year though:). We went on a family trip down south, where our kids successfully challenged Chris and I to a 2 vs 2 beach volleyball game (it was sooo close) and then we took a really fun trip out west. With high school schedules, part time jobs and University approaching (and then covid...), these were some of the last big family trips for quite a while.

Such good memories and fun to look back to see what was happening a decade ago!

Q: How do your classes help me rebuild strength after baby?

A: We focus on building back strength with body weight, lower load and moderate volume. As you get stronger and build your endurance we progress you by increasing volume versus load (heavier).

Volume doesn’t always mean reps, it also means frequency.

We want to gradually progress people to working out 3-4 times a week building a habit of consistency. The goal for postpartum people is to accumulate 120min of moderate-vigorous exercise each week. (It’s one of the reasons why we include access to our Live, Online and On Demand Content Library with our in-person series!)

This should happen before people start adding more load (resistance) and should be maintained for a period of time to build foundational strength and to reduce injury.

Postpartum is not the time to hop back into high intensity or hard hitting workouts. This approach is a great way to get back to those types of workouts (if that’s what you like) safely and effectively!

✨ When should you return to exercise postpartum? ✨

The answer might surprise you! It’s not about waiting months and months or immediately jumping back into “pre-baby” workouts.

The 2025 Postpartum 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend a gradual return to movement within the first 12 weeks postpartum to support both mental and physical health 🤍

And that’s exactly what our classes are built to do.

At Fitmama Strong, we focus on:

✔️ Safe, progressive movement
✔️ Core + pelvic floor–first programming
✔️ Strength you can actually use in daily mom life
✔️ Options for every stage of postpartum (weeks… months… years!)

With 15+ years of experience as a Personal Trainer and advanced training in core & pelvic floor health, we design every class with the postpartum body in mind. These are not just modified workouts, but intentional ones.

This is movement that:

✨ supports healing
✨ builds confidence
✨ meets you where you are
✨ and helps you feel strong again, from the inside out

Because postpartum exercise isn’t about bouncing back.
It’s about building forward 💪💕

🌟 15 Years Strong — Thanks to YOU! 🌟

Over the years we’ve:

* Supported thousands of pregnant and postpartum mamas on their journey to strength and wellness.
* Celebrated babies, belly bumps, and milestones — and watched moms build lifelong friendships, all while getting stronger together.
* Evolved into a full-fledged community: prenatal classes, baby-wearing workouts, stroller fitness, online live classes, and a huge on-demand library for mamas near and far.

💖 To every mama who’s sweated, stretched, lifted — whether from a live class, a living room, or a park — thank you. You’ve made Fitmama Strong what it is today.

Here’s to many more years of strength, community, and motherhood — together.

We’re going back a number of years to that Babywearing Fitness class that fell on Halloween and the one time I actually did a Halloween themed class!

The start to our new series fell at an odd time and, if you know me, you’ll know that I’m not a super fan of Halloween (unlike who dresses up almost every year as something really fun - head to her stories to see her as Scuba Jen!)

So it was a stretch for me to host this class, but I have to say that it was also really fun!

Thanks to all the mamas past and present who keep me having fun each week, even without a costume!

Happy Halloween to all of the families out there. I’ll enjoy seeing all of the amazing costumes on your own squares tonight :)

We’re back at with Babywearing Fitness! Our first class was today and we had so much fun that I forgot to get a photo! So here we are with a throwback to another series:)

Being a new mama can be hard so it was really fun to chat about some of the reasons we love about being a mom on mat leave:
- the snuggles and smiles
- watching older kiddos love their siblings
- feeling more confident the second time around
- doing fun activities with baby
- meeting other new mamas
- not having to worry about or think about work!

There were more but this is just a sampling. It was so fun to see some returning mamas and to meet a bunch of new faces. GNAG is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon!
