What a fantastic experience and opportunity, happy to have been able to provide some support albeit in a small way....now how do I get myself into one of those gliders...

The Gatineau Gliding Club and the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Program are pleased to relaunch the Freedom Wings program to provide inspirational glider experience flights to TOH rehabilitation clients with mobility and cognitive challenges.

The “Freedom Wings” program is a registered Charity that gives people with disabilities the chance to experience the freedom of gliding at no cost to them. Since 2003, inspirational flights
have been provided to persons with disabilities. For this event Freedom Wings funding covers only part of the costs.

The Gatineau Gliding Club provides a complimentary day of airfield flight operations to make the event happen. There will be eight Club members volunteering their personal time. This includes four volunteer pilots and up to four ground staff. The club is also providing complementary glider rental, day membership, and full access to the Pendleton runways and airfield facilities.

Participants will sit in the front seat of a two-seated glider with a qualified glider pilot in the rear seat. The glider will take-off by being pulled by a rope behind a powered plane to a height of
approximately 2000ft and released from tow. The motor less flight experience will begin; flying in silence above the colours of Eastern Ontario before gliding to a soft landing.

Conval-Aid is providing technical support for the transfer lift that lifts the participant in and out of the glider.

The Ottawa Hospital is providing accessible transportation through 417 bus services as well as several Ottawa Hospital staff to help rehabilitation clients at the airfield maximize their
experience.
