⏰ Today we celebrate International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day (IPOD 2025) β€” a global observance initiated by ISPO to raise awareness of the life-changing impact of prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) technologies.

This year’s theme, β€œProducts: Advancing Access, Innovation, and Quality,” highlights how effective P&O products are those that balance:
πŸ”Ή User needs – safe, comfortable, and suited to local lifestyles and environments.
πŸ”Ή Technical excellence – durable, adjustable, and based on sound biomechanical design.
πŸ”Ή Economic sustainability – affordable, efficient to produce, and locally maintainable.

From 3D printing and digital design to sustainable materials and user-centered innovation, the prosthetics and orthotics community continues to transform lives through products that restore mobility, independence, and inclusion.

🌍 Let’s come together to celebrate the professionals, users, researchers, and innovators driving progress in prosthetics and orthotics β€” and to reaffirm our shared commitment to equitable access to assistive technologies for all.

πŸ’™ Join the conversation using and help us spread the message of Empowering Access and Enabling Participation.

πŸ—“οΈ We are pleased to invite you to ISPO Canada's AGM on November 22, 2025 from 8:30am PST/11:30am EST to 11:30am PST/2:30pm EST.
πŸ—£οΈ One of our guest speakers will be Dr. Katia Turcot, PhD, who will be presenting on "Research Activities in Motion Analysis: Innovate Toward Objective Follow-up in Individuals with Lower Limb Amputations".
Dr. Turcot is a tenured professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Laval University. Her research focuses on the three-dimensional (3D) analysis of human movement and biomechanics, particularly in relation to the musculoskeletal system. She is especially interested in all the factors that can influence altered movement strategies in individuals with or without disabilitiesβ€”such as lower limb amputees and people living with knee osteoarthritisβ€”during daily activities.
Dr. Turcot earned her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Montreal and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University Hospitals of Geneva (Switzerland). During her time at the W***y Taillard Kinesiology Laboratory (Geneva), she worked in a clinical-research setting and co-directed a gait analysis laboratory.
She joined Laval University and the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Rehabilitation and Social Integration (Cirris) in 2013. She has been awarded FRQ-S Research Scholar grants (Junior 1 and 2) and currently holds an NSERC Discovery Grant (2024–2029). Throughout her academic career, she has supervised a significant number of highly qualified personnel (HQP), published over 70 peer-reviewed articles, and secured more than $3 million in research funding.
Dr. Turcot currently leads the Cirris Data Motion Analysis Platform, which provides researchers and clinicians with advanced 3D measurement services for analyzing kinematics, kinetics, and electromyographic (EMG) activity during movement. This innovative platform, aims to foster an ecosystem that brings together key stakeholders in movement analysis and promotes new collaborations. Her leadership once again highlights her commitment to knowledge transfer, both in clinical and industrial contexts.
