We are excited to welcome midwife Nour to our team! "I grew up here on unceded, unsurrendered, Anishinàbe Algonquin territory known as Ottawa. I have always been passionate about reproductive and other forms of justice. My studies of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa furthered my understanding of health as a holistic phenomenon which can not be disconnected from the socio-political and economic determinants of health. This forced me to reconsider what I believed to be quality health care which works to build up marginalized, or otherwise vulnerable, people and their communities. After some time working in various forms of community health I moved to Tkaronto (Toronto) to attend the Midwifery Education Program. During my continued studies I focused on the effects of settler colonialism and decolonization as it pertains to reproductive justice- drawing ties between Indigenous health here on Turtle Island and in my home country of Palestine. I stayed in Toronto and worked as registered midwife until joining Ottawa South Midwives. I am excited to be back in the community where I grew up in and pay forward all the care that was poured into me. My aim is to provide client-centred, culturally competent, safe, and dignified care. I am honoured to be part of this journey with you and your families."

Join us in welcoming Helen H to our OSM team!! "I completed my midwifery education in Nigeria, where I am originally from, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in the United Kingdom. Despite this, my deep love and passion for midwifery led me to continue practicing as a midwife. Since 2015, I have had the privilege of caring for families in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and now in Canada, supporting diverse populations and experiences along the way.

I am dedicated to providing client-centered, individualized care that respects each family’s unique journey.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching shows, and exploring the outdoors. I am excited to walk alongside you in this special season and honored to partner with you as you welcome your little one into the world."

We had a wonderful time at the reunion picnic! It's so fun to come together with families who we've helped grow! We were also thrilled so many midwives were able to be in the same place at the same time! Just a few missing for births or rest!

Welcoming our new senior student, Camille, who will be following our midwives Christi & Nicole! She will be with OSM over the next year and looks forward to getting to know you all & helping to bring your little ones into the world 😊🩺👶🏼

A bit more about Camille:
“I grew up on a strawberry farm in Embrun, a village in Eastern Ontario. Before starting my midwifery studies at McMaster, I attended the University of Ottawa and graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences. Continuity of care, reproductive and sexual health rights and improved access to healthcare are all core tenets that first drew me to midwifery. During my midwifery placements, I have been privileged to learn in Ottawa, Thunder Bay and St. Johns (Newfoundland and Labrador).
My hobbies include camping, trying out new food recipes, watercolour and having my nose stuck in history books. I am fluent in both English and French. I look forward to being part of your care team and I am grateful to be a part of your wonderful journey.’’
