🫁November is , and we'd like to highlight research of Dr. Henry Li, PGY-5 Emergency Medicine Resident / Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow at the University of Alberta

As a past CAEP Research Grant recipient, Dr. Li's work is helping us better understand how delayed pulmonary embolism diagnoses happen and how we can prevent them.

Research Project:
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀.

Research Summary:
“Pulmonary embolisms (PEs) carry significant morbidity and mortality and are difficult to diagnose in the ED. Our study is looking at how often a diagnosis of PE may be missed at an initial ED visit, factors associated with a delayed diagnosis, and whether this delay leads to greater morbidity and mortality. Our overall goal is to drive improvements in PE diagnosis in the ED so that all patients receive timely, accurate care.”
