When we are in a state of panic, the "fight or flight" response using the primitive part of our brains makes it difficult to access the problem solving part of the brain.

This 1 minute video very briefly describes a technique for letting the mind settle. Practice this breathing exercise for 5 minutes a day. That way you'll have an easy tool to use any time you feel rushed and anxious.
