Perley Health

Perley Health Community Of Care The Perley Health has a long tradition of quality care serving veterans and an ever-increasing number of seniors from the community.

Perley Health has expanded its programs and services from a long-term care centre to create a Seniors Village which offers seniors more choices in a healthy, stimulating and safe environment. The Seniors Village includes 139 especially-designed apartments, Assisted Living services for those in need at home or in the new apartments, a long-term care centre serving 450 residents, various respite care to help caregivers of family members with dementia, convalescent care, and various on-site health-oriented services. Care for those living with dementia is fully integrated into the Perley Health Seniors Village programs and services including one of Ontario’s first apartment clusters. We have built up expertise in-house and have established a close connection with the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.

This Family Day, we reflect on the many ways we help to foster connections across generations by helping to preserve the legacies of those we love. At Perley Health, a new initiative called “Rhythms of Remembrance” is helping Veterans do just that.
Residents create musical keepsakes for their families by recording their heartbeats to compose personal stories and songs.
As Veteran resident Gail Fugere shared, "How much more can you give than your heartbeat?"
It is a reminder of the importance of family and the power of the stories we leave behind.
Happy Family Day!

Veterans at Perley Health are creating music from their own heartbeats.

CTV Ottawa’s Peter Szperling shares the story of “Rhythms of Remembrance,” a project that pairs each Veteran’s recorded heartbeat with music and personal reflections to create a lasting keepsake for family.

As one Veteran put it: “How much more can you give than your heartbeat?”

It’s a powerful example of how Perley Health honours Veterans through innovation, creativity, and connection.

With Family Day almost here, we’ve been thinking about what it truly means to belong. 💜 Family isn’t only about where you come from. It’s also about the people who lovingly walk beside you every day with care and compassion.

That’s exactly what George found when he arrived at Perley Health.

After a lifetime of travel as a pilot, George could have felt alone in his new place. But because of your generous support, he found friendly hellos in the hallway, neighbours gathering together to connect, and small acts of kindness that helped him feel settled right away.

Today, George shares his love of music—singing in the Perley choir, playing his harmonica in the halls, and sparking smiles wherever he goes. It’s one of the many ways connection and community come to life here.

This is what your support makes possible: a place that feels like a big, warm, caring family.
Thank you for being part of the Perley family—today and always. 💙

Together, we improve the well-being of the people we serve!
Yesterday, the Pallium Canada’s LEAP™ Mini course was held in Lupton Hall, and team members shared their knowledge and showcased unique Perley Health resources. From clinical competencies to new and innovative tools and training, our team spent the day engaging and supporting resident-centred care.
Susan Shea, Perley Health Nurse Practitioner Lead, and Dr. Benoît Robert, Perley Health Chief Medical Officer led two of the presentations.
Our Palliative Care Resource table was a popular hallway stop during breaktime!
At the table, Perley Health highlights included: Introductions to the Comfort Care Cart and End-of-Life Wreath from Sam and Kelly. Rhythms of Remembrance, the musical legacy project, was introduced by music therapists Tim and Patricia. And a series of specialized resources for long-term care were shared by staff from the Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™.
Perley Health is proud to welcome our partners for this informative session on frailty-informed, compassionate care. Champlain Hospice Palliative Care Program

Most Canadians want to remain at home as they age, and with the right supports, that can be the right choice. But when health needs change, families often find themselves stretched thin, navigating a fragmented system and making critical decisions in the middle of a crisis.

In this new blog post, Perley Health CEO Akos Hoffer reflects on what’s missing from the aging-in-place conversation, and why long-term care expertise needs to show up earlier, beyond institutional walls, to better support seniors and caregivers alike.

How do you lead a sector that the public largely misunderstands?

With Ontario’s "grey wave" set to triple the number of seniors aged 90+ in the next two decades, Perley Health is changing the conversation. Director of Communications Jay Innes shares how one of Canada’s largest LTC homes uses a "Communications First" strategy to protect trust, attract staff, and prove that LTC is a hub of clinical innovation, not a system in decline.

The Highlights:
- Beyond the Crisis: Moving from "damage control" to proactive storytelling.
- The Talent Edge: How transparency helps solve the chronic staffing shortage.
- Clinical Clarity: Translating complex frailty-informed care into a narrative that secures funding and partnerships.

In a sector where clarity saves time and resources, this sheds light on sustaining impacts for the next 20 years of long-term care.

👉 Read the full article and plan to attend the Home & Community Care Conference, where Tanya MacDonald, Perley Health Director Senior Living and Community Programs, will discuss our work and the newest sub-brand: Living Well at Home.

A sophisticated communications strategy supports Perley Health’s leadership during the quiet revolution underway in long-term care (LTC). The revolution is driven largely by Ontario’s rapidly aging population—the so-called “grey wave”[1] that threatens to overwhelm the healthcare and LTC s...

Today, Perley Health was honoured to welcome a visit from Dr. Karima Velji, RN, PhD, CHE, FCAN, the Chief of Nursing and Professional Practice and Assistant Deputy Minister for the Province of Ontario. During Dr. Velji’s visit, she engaged with our interprofessional staff to witness how Perley Health is transforming long-term care through various programs and services. The visit also highlighted the real impacts of our many nurse-led care initiatives, specifically our skin and wound care and palliative care teams. Dr. Velji concluded her visit with an introduction to our "Warm Welcome" program as well as the Orientation Peer Support Program. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Velji for her leadership, her compassion and her interest in learning firsthand how community generosity and collaborative care are enhancing the well-being of our residents and benefitting the wider community.
