Sometimes, improving quality of life requires a creative approach. In 2015 Andréa Fabricius, a Creative Arts Instructor at Perley Health, introduced the idea of tromp l'oeil illusions, otherwise known as diversion doors. The art installation painted on doors in a resident unit can promote activity, foster positive interactions and generally improve the quality of life for a person living with dementia.

Learn more about the new diversion doors, finished in 2025, on our Specialized Veterans Unit at https://www.PerleyHealth.ca/painting-a-captivating-diversion

The Annual Perley Health Volunteer Dinner and Awards is this afternoon!

We will announce the winners of our awards, and long-service pins here at 6 pm this evening. Stay tuned the rest of the week for more as we celebrate our dedicated and valued volunteers during Volunteer Week! Thank you!

We'd also like to thank students from Immaculata High School’s Caring for Others program. They have created an interactive volunteer appreciation display where visitors could stop by the antique postal cart, across from the Seniors and Veterans Active Living Centre to share their own messages for the volunteer team.

For family and friends visiting Perley Health today:

• The Cafeteria will be closed at 3:30pm on Wednesday April 22nd for the Annual Volunteer Recognition: Dinner and Awards. The Cafeteria will re-open, 8 am, Thursday April 23rd.

• The Ice Cream Parlour will also be closing half an hour early, at 3 pm rather than the usual 3:30 pm, to accommodate setup for the dinner.

Thank you.
