Did you know? 🤍

Boys and men who identify as gay or bisexual are at significantly higher risk of eating disorders compared to their heterosexual peers.

These findings highlight the impact of stigma, minority stress, and body image pressures on mental health.

Eating disorders are not just a “women’s issue.”
They affect people of all genders—and inclusive, affirming care matters.

What is Emotion-Focused Intervention? 🤍

Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) helps parents and caregivers support their loved ones in understanding and managing emotions—with compassion and confidence.

Caregivers learn how to:
✨ Interrupt unhelpful patterns
✨ Support emotional processing through emotion coaching
✨ Navigate challenges together

EFFT can support concerns like anxiety, mood difficulties, eating disorders, and more.

And importantly, caregivers can begin this work even if their loved one isn’t ready for therapy.

At Anchor, we’re passionate about equipping families with the tools to feel more confident, connected, and supported.

Feeling overwhelmed?
Take a moment to slow down with this simple grounding exercise 🤍

5-Finger Breathing is an easy way to reconnect with your body and bring yourself back to the present.

Trace your hand.
Breathe in as you go up.
Breathe out as you go down.

Slow. Steady. Intentional.

Once you reach your last finger, gently reverse direction and follow your breath back across your hand.

Let each breath anchor you here, in this moment.

Save this for when you need a reset 💭

💛 Compassionate, Weight-Inclusive Care 💛

Eating disorders don’t discriminate — they can affect anyone, at any size. Comments or approaches that focus only on weight can increase shame and disordered eating, but care that is weight-inclusive and person-centred makes a real difference.

This Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026, remember:
- Your weight is not the sole measure of health
- Support should focus on your goals and well-being, not numbers on a scale
- Expanding the variety of foods and listening to your body fosters long-term health
- Everyone deserves care that validates and supports them, not shames them

Weight-Inclusive Care Matters! Comments like “Based on your size, it doesn’t look like you have an eating disorder” or “You need to work on your diet and exercise more” can harm anyone seeking help.

Focusing on weight alone in healthcare can:
- Increase shame and anxiety
- Worsen disordered eating
- Reinforce weight stigma

This Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026, let’s remember: health isn’t determined by body size or shape. Everyone deserves compassionate, weight-inclusive care that focuses on well-being, not numbers on a scale.

🏡 Interrupting Unsafe Conversations at Home 🏡

For Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2026, remember: how we talk about food and bodies at home shapes how kids feel about themselves.

If you hear comments policing what or how much a child eats, try redirecting the conversation toward trust, enjoyment, and variety — not dieting or guilt.

Key tips:
- Trust your child: let them decide how much to eat from what’s offered
- Enjoy meals together and make mealtime positive
- Encourage variety: trying new foods is a skill that develops over time
- Avoid using food as a reward or punishment — all foods can fit
- Keep diet culture out: be mindful of language about bodies, weight, and food
