“As a social worker, I’ve walked alongside patients through some of life’s most vulnerable moments for just over 17 years.
I’ve seen people, who felt like they had nothing left, find the strength to keep going, and it’s beautiful.
Recently, I ran into a former patient in the hallway. Now, she’s a nurse here. She recognized me instantly, even with my mask on. We both cried. That moment meant more to me than she knows. It reminded me why I do this work.
It’s truly a privilege to walk with people through their darkest times. And it’s moments like that hallway encounter that keep me going.”

« En tant que travailleuse sociale, depuis un peu plus de 17 ans, j’accompagne des patients dans les moments les plus vulnérables de leur vie.
J’ai vu des personnes complètement désemparées trouver la force de continuer, et c’est magnifique.
Dernièrement, j’ai croisé par hasard une ancienne patiente dans un couloir de l’Hôpital. Elle y travaille à présent comme infirmière. Elle m’a reconnue tout de suite, bien que je porte un masque. Nous avons toutes les deux pleuré. Ce moment m’a marquée plus qu’elle ne le pense. Il m’a rappelé pourquoi je fais ce travail.
C’est un immense privilège d’accompagner des gens dans leurs moments les plus difficiles. Et ce sont des moments comme celui dans le couloir qui me motive. »

It was all heart out on the green on August 15 as close to 150 players gathered for the 2nd Annual VEZ Cup, hosted at Loch March Golf Club. 💚⛳ This event honoured the life and legacy of Jeremy Vezina (“Vez”) who was cared for at our hospital during his final days.
We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Matt McNeely, Territory Manager at Garland Canada, Pamela, Garland Inc., and everyone who made this event possible!
An incredible $20,000 was raised, thanks to community support, that will go towards the ICU at the Civic Campus.

Le 15 août dernier, la bienveillance s’est donné rendez-vous sur les terrains du club de golf Loch March! Près de 150 golfeurs ont pris part au 2e tournoi de golf annuel VEZ Cup à la mémoire de Jeremy Vezina (« Vez »), qui a reçu des soins et s’est éteint à L’Hôpital d’Ottawa.
Un immense MERCI à Matt McNeely, gestionnaire à Garland Canada, à Pamela, à Garland Inc. et à toutes les personnes qui ont rendu possible cet événement!
Grâce à l’incroyable générosité de la communauté, 20 000 $ ont été amassés. Cette somme sera versée à l’Unité des soins intensifs du Campus Civic.

Joyeux Jour des Franco-Ontariens et des Franco-Ontariennes! 💚 🤍
Saviez-vous que cette année marque les 50 ans du drapeau franco-ontarien? Le vert et le blanc du drapeau représentent l’été et l’hiver en Ontario, le trille blanc symbolise la province et la fleur de lys représente la communauté francophone.
C’était formidable de se retrouver aujourd’hui pour parler (et pratiquer) le français dans un cadre amical et détendu, grâce à la Francophonie @ lho (groupe faisant partie du réseau Communautés @ lho), qui se concentre sur la création et la célébration d’un environnement inclusif et accueillant pour les francophones et les francophiles à L’Hôpital d’Ottawa.

Meet Dr. Cory Goldstein, a philosopher-bioethicist making medical research more ethical, efficient, and inclusive — and he's also this year’s 2025 Grimshaw Researcher in Training Award recipient!
As a Postdoctoral Fellow at our hospital and uOttawa, he’s helping develop international ethics guidelines for complex clinical trials, the kind that test treatments in real-world healthcare settings.

“I come from a long line of occupational therapists. My grandmother, my aunt and my mom were all occupational therapists. My mom actually worked here, too. I still see her photo on the wall upstairs.
You’d think that, naturally, I’d want to follow in their footsteps, but I spent years resisting it. I even did an extra year of university trying to find something different, but eventually I found my way to it and now I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Funny enough, I still ended up doing very different OT work than the rest of my family. There are many different modalities, so as much as we have the same title, we each found our own paths.
I work in acute care on the Internal Medicine Unit. For me, caring for people is just as much about getting to know them as it is about understanding their condition. It’s always about dignity.”
