Barbara Jemec MD, PhD, FRCS(Plast) EBOPRAS, FRCSC
Barbara Jemec, MD graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 1991 and went on to do all her post-graduate training in the U.K., apart from a three month Out of Programme attachment to the Plastic Surgery department at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen in 2001. She obtained her FRCS from the English Royal College in 1995, and her FRCS(Plast) in 2002. She is on the GMC and CPSO Specialist register for Plastic Surgery
She also has a MD (UK)/ PhD(CAN) from University College London in 2000 for her thesis in Dupuytren's disease. She was elected to the Councils of BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeons) Council and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and invited to the Plastic Surgery Royal Society of Medicine Council, where she was the President in 2011-2012. She also sat on the Central Consultant Committee at the British Medical Association and on the Specialist Training Committee for the London Training programme in Plastic Surgery for many years. Her passion is training overseas doctors to an independent level in reconstructive surgery in resource poor countries, and she started the Foundation: BFIRST (British Foundation for International Reconstructive Surgery and Training), which was launched in November 2014. She has been a Consultant in the NHS since 2004, at the Royal London Hospital, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and from 2010 at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK and from 2021 at Trillium Health Partners, Toronto, Canada
She specialises in Hand Surgery and Skin Cancer.
