At Tea and Toast, we’re on a mission to provide seniors and their families with compassionate and personalized support throughout their retirement living transition. We’ve helped thousands of Ottawa seniors and their families find the right mix of care and amenities. Our team provides the education, knowledge, and support that seniors and their families need to make informed decisions about their future that are rooted in their unique needs. Our services include retirement living search, long-term care navigation, eldercare planning, and workshops. Often, when families try to navigate senior living or long-term care on their own, they spend 80+ hours researching and touring communities. Today the Tea & Toast team is wearing pink.

Not just because it’s Pink Shirt Day, but because kindness truly matters in the work we do every single day.

Supporting families through eldercare planning, retirement living and long-term care decisions, we see how much inclusion matters. And we also see that bullying doesn’t magically disappear with age.

It can show up in workplaces.
It can show up in communities.
It can even show up in senior living dining rooms.

Being left out hurts at 8. It also hurts at 88.

Let’s be clear:

Bullying happens in schools.
Bullying happens at work.
Bullying happens in senior living communities.

At every age and stage, we can choose kindness.
We can notice.
We can intervene.
We can model better.

Pink Shirt Day isn’t just about kids. It’s about courage. It’s about speaking up. It’s about creating safe spaces at every table.

We all have a role in snuffing this out.

This is what a crisis can look like. One member of a couple is the caregiver for the other, and then that caregiver has an emergency and suddenly cannot care for their spouse. We can help prevent these kinds of crisis through eldercare planning, or, it you find your family in a crisis like this, we can help find alternative housing asap.

Yes, even is snowstorms, we're visiting retirement residences with families. If time is of the essence (as it was with this family,) and the roads are safe enough, and our Eldercare Planners are comfortable driving, it's business as usual around here.

Picture this, you and your partner of many years think it might be time to move to a retirement home. They need more help and care than you can provide, plus, you're worries that if something happened to you, who would take care of your partner? But, you still want to maintain some independence, cooking meals, driving, that sort of thing.

Every family, couple and client is different and has different needs and wants. Tea & Toast will take ALL of this into consideration when helping you navigate which retirement home is going to be the best fit for your family. You want a full kitchen vs a kitchenette? Got it. You want a dog washing station? Got it. You want two bedrooms? Got it.

Sometimes we may be helping clients and families who want to/need to move to a retirement home, but find the idea of a 1 on 1 tour overwhelming, or too much pressure. For these families, what Rachel did was she invited them both to attend an open house with her for a very low-intensity visit to get a feel for what retirement living is all about.
