At Tea and Toast, we’re on a mission to provide seniors and their families with compassionate and personalized support throughout their retirement living transition. We’ve helped thousands of Ottawa seniors and their families find the right mix of care and amenities. Our team provides the education, knowledge, and support that seniors and their families need to make informed decisions about their future that are rooted in their unique needs. Our services include retirement living search, long-term care navigation, eldercare planning, and workshops. Often, when families try to navigate senior living or long-term care on their own, they spend 80+ hours researching and touring communities. Working with our expert advisors can bring the time spent down to about 5 hours and ensure you feel confident about the decisions being made.

One of the questions we get asked quite often is "how involved should my parent be in the decision making process?" and our answer is that every family is different. In this case, it was going to be overwhelming for mom to tour retirement homes and compare them all, so her daughter did some pre-tours, and we came back with mom to the top two choices.

Each family has different dynamics. Some parents want to be totally involved, and some trust their children to take the lead on much of the process.

Every family we help is on a different timeline. Some families are looking ahead to the future, looking to move within a year or two, some families want to move quicker, within a few months, and some are in emergent situations, often coming from hospital and cannot return home. We move the process at our client's pace to the best of our abilities. We're here to support you.

Sometimes the emotions involved with moving to a retirement home are just as complex as the logistics involved. Moving is a huge life transition as is. Moving to a retirement home can bring up all sorts of feelings about aging, end of life, loss of independence, institutionalization, being discarded... we have heard it all, and we're here to listen, provide education and support.
