There’s more to you than what a scale can show. Behind every number, there’s a deeper story:

→ How much of your weight is muscle
→ How much is fat

One number starts the conversation. InBody completes it. April is Stress Awareness Month and stress quietly shifts every one of these metrics.

The more you understand your body, the better equipped you are to take care of it. Less than 60 seconds. That’s all it takes to see the full picture.

Have you ever noticed your body fat or muscle numbers change day to day?

Daily changes are completely normal.

Hydration, time of day, sleep, and recent activity can all influence your InBody results.

That is why a single test does not tell the full story. Tracking your body composition over time helps reveal patterns and gives you a clearer picture of what is actually changing.

A scale tells your clients what they weigh. An InBody test tells them why it matters. In under 60 seconds, four outputs change the conversation: visceral fat level, percent body fat, skeletal muscle mass, and basal metabolic rate. These aren’t just data points. They’re the starting line for better programming, stronger client retention, and measurable outcomes you can track over time. Test. Track. Validate. Many people view 12% body fat as an ideal benchmark — lean, defined, and athletic. But what that actually looks like, and whether it’s healthy, depends on the individual.

Body fat percentage provides far more context than weight alone. Two individuals at the same weight can have very different compositions, influencing performance, metabolic health, and long-term sustainability.

For some, 12% may be achievable and maintainable. For others, particularly women, it may approach essential fat levels and introduce risks related to hormonal balance, energy availability, and recovery.

The key question isn’t just how to reach a specific number — but whether it can be sustained without compromising overall health.

In this blog, we explore what 12% body fat really means, how to measure it accurately, and how to approach it safely using body composition data.

That moment on the InBody machine can feel frustrating.

Here’s the difference 👇
📍 One body composition test shows
• where you are right now
• a single moment in time

📊 Looking over time shows
• how your body is actually changing
• patterns that explain what’s happening

Clarity doesn’t come from one moment. It comes from seeing the full picture over time. Learn more at InBodyCanada.ca

The Shift Clinic – Redefining Obesity Medicine with Precision Body Composition Tracking

Serving patients across Ontario, The Shift Clinic is a physician-led practice specializing in obesity medicine and women’s metabolic health. Since July 2024, Dr. Ashley White, MD, DipABOM, has integrated the InBody 970 into her in-person clinical assessments to monitor fat loss, muscle preservation, and metabolic risk with greater precision.

Rather than focusing solely on the scale, patients complete baseline scans and follow-ups every 4–12 weeks — allowing the clinic to track meaningful changes in Visceral Fat Area, Skeletal Muscle Mass, ECW/TBW ratio, and BMR.

“In obesity medicine, the scale can be deeply misleading,” says Dr. White.

“The InBody gives patients objective, visual proof that their body composition is improving — even when the scale isn’t moving the way they expect.”

Patients often describe a sense of relief when they see what’s truly happening inside their body.

“It shifts the conversation from shame to science.”

In one case, a patient discouraged by minimal scale change discovered she had lost over four pounds of fat mass while preserving muscle and improving visceral fat levels.

“The scale said almost nothing happened. The InBody told a completely different story.”

As The Shift Clinic prepares to open its new physical location on April 29, 2026, the InBody 970 will be front and centre — supporting their hybrid model of virtual care paired with hands-on metabolic assessment.

If progress only counted when the scale moved, most of us would quit.

Sometimes progress looks like consistency, better habits, and your body changing quietly in the background.

Turns out that still counts.

Chest fat is a common concern — but clinical evidence is clear: spot reduction isn’t possible.

Fat accumulation in the chest is influenced by a combination of genetics, hormones, and overall body fat levels. While targeted exercises can improve muscle definition, meaningful changes come from reducing total body fat through structured nutrition, resistance training, and consistent lifestyle habits.

It’s also important to distinguish between adipose tissue and conditions like gynecomastia, where hormonal imbalances may require medical evaluation.

The key takeaway: sustainable fat loss is systemic, not localized — and progress is best measured through changes in body composition, not just weight.

In our latest blog, we break down the evidence and outline practical strategies to support long-term results.
