One of the biggest challenges us dyslexics face is how people perceive us from our writing and typing – especially now that we often tap away on our phones more than we talk face to face. Image from Virgin.com When I was at school I was often labelled lazy and dumb because I struggled to k...

I strongly agree with teaching cursive, there is much more happening in the brain than meets the eye on the page! When I am balanced and focused I have beautiful penmanship. I first noticed this in my handwriting on days when I completed a yoga practice, then I noticed it after completing my Davis Dyslexia Training programs.

As a dyslexic, I am very thankful for the word processor, it has been a Godsend for editing and spelling. It is unfortunate that we feel we need to choose between one or the other. To teach cursive writing properly and effectively takes a significant amount of time to practice IN class time. We need to recognize its value and give it its due attention. In my ideal classroom, I would teach it and create a practice time that I think could meditative, it could be very calming and a way of focusing for the day. I am no longer a teacher, I do not need to manage 25 personalities so please note this suggestion was in my "ideal classroom" .

It is a grave mistake to believe that keyboard fi*****ng fluency will develop minds of students as much as traditional cursive handwriting lessons once did.

Very interesting

A new study provides compelling evidence that different forms of meditation can change the brain in measurable ways.

Did you feel a shift in your perception? People with dyslexia/ADD experience shifts in their perception all the time, only it can be caused by words, letters, sounds etc. and usually is so subtle it goes undetected. It is the cause of errors that until some “helpful” person catches them and says something not helpful like “Didn’t you proof read this?”. Repeated errors leave the dyslexic dumbfounded and with feelings of frustration and inadequacy leading to anxiety around certain tasks thereby blocking the ability to learn, this is how a learning disability is born! The beauty of a Davis Dyslexia Correction program is the individual is trained to become aware of perceptual shifts or moments of disorientation allowing them to gain control and stop making errors.

This is crazy neat! My whole family had fun with this one.💖

Today is World Mental Health Awareness Day.

Adults and children struggling with Dyslexia, ADD and Autism, often also struggle with depression and anxiety. Davis Programs that help people on the spectrum master their thinking and quiet the negative thought patterns that lead to depression and anxiety. This is a fabulous video, posted by South African Davis Facilitator, Axel Gudmundsson , about the success one of his young clients had after participating in a Davis Program. I have not renewed my Davis facilitators license this year BUT we do have a licensed Davis Facilitator in Ottawa, Marcia Code of Vantage Point Dyslexia Solutions.

Sabre learns to do maths in five days, and to ride a bike in 30 seconds by attending the Davis Math Mastery programme.

Shifting your perspective on this means your starting point for being helpful is in a much healthier & effective better place. Davis Programs for dyslexia, ADD and autism start with this understanding, they were developed by a brilliant “neurodiverse” man, Ronald Davis.
