Many people assume all insurance protections are the same, but that’s not true. Alison Gilmour helps you understand the key differences between Critical Illness Insurance and Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD):

Critical Illness gives you a one-time payout when diagnosed with a serious illness (like cancer, stroke or heart disease), while LTD provides ongoing income replacement if you can’t work due to illness or injury.

Whether you’re evaluating your coverage, or just want to make sure you and your loved ones are protected, this article will help you make an informed decision. Read more now: https://burntucker.com/articles/critical-illness-vs-long-term-disability-insurance/

It depends on who pays the premiums!
✅ Private policy you paid for? Tax-free.
✅ Employer-paid premiums? Taxable.
Plus, CPP disability and EI sickness benefits are taxable, while workers’ compensation usually isn’t.

Big changes are coming to Ontario’s auto insurance system. Starting July 1, 2026, several important accident benefits — including income replacement, caregiver, and death and funeral benefits — will become optional coverage.

These benefits provide critical support for people injured in car crashes and their families as they recover and rebuild their lives. Without them, many Ontarians may be left without the financial help they need after a serious collision.

Yesterday, Priya Shah and Laurie Tucker along with other OTLA members met with MPPs and Attorney General Doug Downey at Queen’s Park to discuss these changes and how they could impact access to justice for injured people across the province.

Thank you to the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association for organizing a record number of meetings with MPPs to raise awareness about these important issues.

As these changes approach, we encourage all Ontarians to review their insurance policies and make sure they have the coverage they need to protect themselves and their families.
