Hope, Love and Prayers for Aravind

In the beginning

Aravind Kumar came to study in Canada in January 2020, leaving the hardships of India to make a better life for his struggling family. Due to severe financial constraints, Aravind worked tirelessly in India to save money, learn English, and complete studies to be able to support his family from Canada. It took all his family had and a loan against the only property they owned to get him here. In Canada

Once landing in Canada, he began his studies at Lambton College in Sarnia, ON. He studied diligently, and simultaneously worked to support his living costs to avoid being a burden to his family. Tragic News

On November 4, 2020, Aravind received the shocking news that he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a rare diagnosis for someone who is only 24 years old. He was immediately sent to the Victoria Hospital in London, ON. Over the following 2 months, doctors and nurses patiently cared for him helping him through the lows and celebrating the high days. His student insurance covered 100% of his costs in Canada, including 2 rounds of chemo treatment, but the insurance company decided to not cover any further treatments. Aravind will fly home to India on Saturday, January 9, 2021. This is bitter-sweet, but the care team in Canada has set up treatment for him with a very capable team back home in India. The cost will be HUGE! The next treatment step will be a stem cell transplant followed by chemotherapy at Christian Medical Hospital. Currently, it is estimated that this will cost $60,000-$70,000 CAD. The payment for these treatments is required up front before the treatment can happen. Aravind will need to pay in full for the treatment in order for it to begin. Aravind is young and still full of hope to deliver his family from poverty and to give them a better life. Through this difficult trial, Aravind has shown that he is a fighter. He always has a smile on his face. His positive attitude is an inspiration to us all! This obstacle of medical expenses is one he can’t tackle alone. If you could join us, we would like to let Aravind know he has our support and provide him hope of life and hope to his family of a better future. Please give the gift of hope by donating whatever you can

As some may be aware, Aravind passed away painlessly this morning after his fight with cancer. This breaks the hearts of each one of us as we consider the loss of such a young life.
Aravind fought hard for an extension on his days here. He always spoke highly of the outpouring generosity and love of complete strangers on his behalf. Today we sorrow and ask that you join in prayer for the family left behind with a tremendous void in their lives.

As the organizers of this account, we would like to thank each one of you for standing with us and we wish we were writing a different chapter in our story. May the HOPE we looked for in Aravind’s life continue on in our every act and contribution to the good of those around us.

God Bless from our broken hearts to yours.

It is with heavy hearts that we bring the following update on our Aravind. Two weeks ago Aravind had extra tests done due to an ongoing internal bleeding issue that was progressing. The results came back positive for cancer in his blood again.

This is a HUGE setback and due to his weakness treatment options are limited. When we found out the news, we went through a hard time of discouragement. Now we are finished with our first week of low dose chemo. We have also reached out to begin an Ayurvedic diet along side the medications to see if this can help.

Please continue to pray for Aravinds mental strength as we struggle with the realities of this news. 🙏

It’s been a while since we’ve posted an update. It’s been a slow road with seemingly little change or improvements. As we write this we realize there’s much to be thankful for.

As stated previously, Aravind's body did not react well to the Covid-19 he came in contact with 2 months ago.
Since then, he’s spent a lot of time in the hospital trying to get things balanced out. These symptoms that he is facing are not typical Covid-19 symptoms. These symptoms are commonly present in a stem cell transplant patients and Aravind's are to an extreme level because of Covid-19. After weeks of hospitalization and 3 injections a day, he are now at home doing one injection a day. Besides the injections for GVHD, he is also on heavy pills to help with the jaundice which again is common to transplant patients. This treatment has also been extended and more intense due to the weakening of the immune system.
Overall, we are on the upside of the valley and feel confident that with each passing day Aravind will become stronger and more independent from medical treatment.

We appreciate the support and prayers of each one. The financial support that has been given in the past and continues even today has made all the difference. May God bless each one.

This update comes after a long stretch of silence.... it’s been a very difficult road the last few weeks for our Aravind.
After somewhat recovering from COVID, his brother’s blood cells over produced which caused a severe rash and intense jaundice. For 2 weeks, he was readmitted to try to stabilize things. The hardest part was that Aravind’s spirit was low and he was losing hope!
Thankfully, due to great medical care and support, he has turned the corner! He still have more progress to be made, but he is getting back on schedule.
We greatly appreciate ALL that has been done and were nervous to give negative news after ALL you have done!
Aravind continues to have some costly treatments but we hope they will end soon. Please continue to pray and support in whatever way you can. Much love from Aravind and his very greatful family. ❤️

Good Morning! Aravind has returned home, and we couldn’t be happier! He was released yesterday and he’s home with only a slight cough, thanks God! As COVID still rages in India, Aravind plans to isolate as much as possible. Thank you for your prayer and support!

Aravind is improving daily! While he is still in the hospital, he’s off supplemental oxygen. His breathing is easier and the fever has passed. A cough still lingers, but the mucus is loose, and can be brought up easily.
We appreciate the care, attention, and prayers of each one. Also, a HUGE thanks to the medical team back in India for their care of him each step of the way.

Unfortunately, we have a less positive update this time. Aravind tested positive for COVID on Tuesday. His blood counts are stable, but he has been re-admitted to the hospital. The family was taking precautions however, with the second wave raging in India, it’s very challenging to keep away from it. He is stable but on oxygen, and breathing is difficult for him. We are closely monitoring his situation and will provide further updates as they come. We ask for continued prayers as we walk this new curve in the road beside Aravind. Please pray for God's help!

Today we received GREAT NEWS! Aravind had a hospital checkup and he was given permission to move from his temporary residence near the hospital, to his family's home! He and his family are unable to express their appreciation for what was done for him by the people in Canada and beyond. Aravind's hope of life is real! The hope of returning for education in Canada is becoming more clear! We'd like to thank everyone for the prayers and monetary support. Please continue to pray for the complete recovery and strength to live the dream every 23 year old has!

We know it’s been a while since we gave an update, but we have good news!
Aravind went for testing on Friday and the results are good! To this point, it seems the transplant is being accepted by him and he is feeling much better. Cell counts are up and strength and energy is returning. He is currently maintaining his residence near the hospital and will go for final testing in one month to confirm the success of the transplant.
We are SO thankful for the GENEROUS SUPPORT we received! The hope that Aravind dreamed of is being realized! Please continue to pray for a complete recovery... and if possible his return to Canada!

Aravind received his brother's stem cells 3 weeks ago. We wait patiently to see whether it was successful or not. Currently Aravind is feeling all the symptoms that are common to this procedure; sore stomach, loose movements and severe headaches. With his counts rising, he will be released in the next few days and then be monitored through outpatient care. We are thankful for the progress this far and continue to look to God as each step is taken. Continue to pray for his physical healing.

The waiting game!- Aravind received his brother's cells one week ago today. We wait anxiously until next week to see if the transplant was accepted or rejected. This time is critical as his immunity has been lowered to help the body accept the new cells and make them his own. Aravind is experiencing all the common symptoms of this stage of his treatment, but the doctors have reassured him it’s ok. And so, we wait until next week to hear the success of this first round of treatment. Continue to pray for his strength, and protection during this time of extreme vulnerability and that the transplant would accept the first time to speed up his recovery time.
