What Are Pelvic Floor Muscles?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and tissues that form a supportive “hammock” at the base of the pelvis. They hold up important organs like the bladder, bowel, and (in women) the uterus. These muscles need to be able to contract, relax, and coordinate well to function properly.
What Can Go Wrong?
Pelvic floor dysfunction can happen when these muscles are too weak, too tight, or not working in sync. This can lead to:
Urinary or f***l incontinence (leakage)
Pelvic organ prolapse (feeling of heaviness or pressure)
Pelvic pain or discomfort
Pain during s*x
Chronic constipation
Lower back, hip, or groin pain
