⚠️Important Update for Parents & Carers ⚠️

At JMS First Aid Training, we’re committed to keeping you up to date with the latest lifesaving advice and this is one everyone should know.

If a child over 1 year old swallows a small, flat round battery (button/coin battery), you should:
🍯 Give them honey immediately (if they are over 1 year old and able to swallow).
👉 Give small amounts (about a teaspoon) every 10 minutes while on the way to A&E.

⚡ Why?
Button batteries can cause severe internal burns in as little as 2 hours. Honey can help slow the damage while you’re getting urgent medical help.

🚑 This does NOT replace emergency treatment.
You must still go straight to A&E or call emergency services immediately.

❌Do NOT give honey to babies under 1 year old.
❌Do NOT wait for symptoms.

This simple step could reduce serious injury while help is on the way. Please share this information, it could save a child’s

🚨 Measles Cases Rising in the UK – Know the Signs, Protect Your Child 🚨

With recent outbreaks reported across parts of the UK, it’s more important than ever for parents and carers to recognise the early signs of measles and know what to do.

At JMS First Aid Training, we believe knowledge saves lives 💛

👀 What to look out for:

Measles can start like a bad cold before the rash appears. Early symptoms include:
🤒 High fever
🤧 Runny or blocked nose
😷 Persistent cough
👀 Red, sore, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
🟣 Small white spots inside the cheeks (Koplik spots)

A few days later, a red-brown blotchy rash usually appears, starting on the face and behind the ears before spreading down the body.

⚠️ When to seek medical advice:
Contact your GP or call 111 if you suspect measles. Always phone ahead before visiting to avoid spreading infection.

Measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications, especially in babies, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems.

💉 Prevention matters
The MMR vaccine is the best protection against measles and is offered free on the NHS. If you’re unsure whether your child is fully vaccinated, check with your GP.

Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe. 💙

🚑 Did You Know? 🚑

At JMS First Aid Training, you’re learning from someone who doesn’t just teach first aid… she lives it every day.

Jan, the founder of JMS First Aid Training, still works on the frontline as a first responder for the ambulance service. That means the skills she teaches in the classroom are the very same skills she uses in real-life emergencies.

💡 So how does this make her an amazing trainer?
✅ She brings real, up to date experience from actual emergency callouts
✅ She understands the pressures people feel in genuine first aid situations
✅ She shares real scenarios (not just textbook examples)
✅ She teaches with confidence, clarity, and compassion
✅ She knows exactly what ambulance crews need from bystanders before they arrive

Jan’s hands on experience means your training is current, practical, and based on what truly happens in emergencies, not just theory.

When you train with JMS First Aid Training, you’re learning from someone who is actively saving lives in our community. And that makes all the difference. ❤️

🚨 CPR Saves Lives — No Matter Who You Are 🚨

Did you know that research has shown women are less likely to receive bystander CPR in public than men? Studies suggest only about 68% of women receive CPR, compared with 73% of men and one key reason is hesitation around touching a woman’s chest.

This can happen because people feel unsure or embarrassed about what to do with clothing, including bras during an emergency. But here’s the fact:

👉 The Resuscitation Council UK clearly states that life-saving actions take priority and if clothing (like a bra) interferes with correct AED pad placement, it should be removed quickly so that pads can be applied properly to bare skin.

There’s no shame in doing what’s necessary to save a life. 🙌
CPR and defibrillation work the same on all bodies. Every second counts, and hesitation can cost lives.

📍 Our First Aid Training includes:
✔ How to perform high quality CPR on adults of all shapes
✔ What to do with clothing and AED pad placement
✔ Building confidence so fear never stops you from acting

Let’s break the taboos. Let’s make sure everyone is ready to help when it matters most. 💪

🎉 Friday First Aid Fact! 🇬🇧

Did you know? In the UK, around 30,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest every year but immediate CPR can double or even triple someone’s chance of survival! ❤️

👉 You don’t have to be a healthcare professional to save a life.
👉 You just need the skills and confidence to act quickly.

Having proper first aid training means you’re far more likely to step in, start CPR immediately, and potentially save someone’s life while waiting for the emergency services. Those first few minutes really do matter.

At JMS First Aid Training, we believe everyone should feel ready to step in when it matters most.

🌲JMS First Aid Training – Forest School Focus🌲

At JMS First Aid, we’re passionate about making sure staff are correctly trained for the environments they teach in, especially settings such as Forest School.

Outdoor learning provides children with incredible opportunities to explore, take managed risks, build resilience, and connect with nature. However, working in woodland environments brings unique challenges uneven ground, tools, campfires, weather exposure, and being further away from immediate support.

That’s why having properly trained staff is essential. The right first aid training ensures that teams can:
✅ Respond quickly and confidently in outdoor emergencies
✅ Manage injuries specific to Forest School activities
✅ Make safe decisions in remote environments
✅ Provide reassurance to parents and settings

Forest School first aid isn’t the same as classroom first aid and training should reflect that.
