Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) comes in many forms but one thing I’ve consistently noticed is that the symptoms go through phases of being better and worse.  I often refer to OCD as being like a ‘bully’ and I’ve noticed that when we are at our most vulnerable this bully has a nasty hab...

It's rather chilly this morning and without realising it I've been embracing Hygge! I wrapped up warm first thing and headed for a stroll around my local park. When I got home I made a cuppa, lit a candle and started work on updating my website. All of this reminded me of a blog post I wrote a while ago ...

Take a few moments to think about the word hygge. What, if anything, does it mean to you? For me, hygge brings to mind flickering candles, soft, warm blankets, a good book and a cup of hot chocolate, while outside all is wintry and dark. So, just what is Hygge, and how do you even ... Read more

https://forresttalkingtherapies.co.uk/celebration-or-stress-living-with-ptsd-during-firework-season/

For many, Bonfire Night is a moment of celebration, but for some veterans living with PTSD, it can be an incredibly difficult time. The flashes, bangs and smells of fireworks can trigger painful memories of combat and loss.

“We see a higher rate of distress in veterans accessing our services at this time of year. The sound and unexpected bangs of fireworks can be reminders of frontline combat where they were exposed to the horrors of war in service to this country.

“Firework displays bring people together and create a lot of joy for spectators. We don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, but we urge the public to understand how distressing noisy fireworks can be for military veterans. We also want to encourage veterans who are struggling with PTSD to reach out for help, as treatment and recovery is possible,” says Dr Naomi Wilson, Clinical Director at Combat Stress.

If you need support, our free and confidential Helpline is available 24/7 on 0800 138 1619. You can also text 07537 173683 (standard rates may apply) or email helpline@combatstress.org.uk.

Please note: our Helpline is not a crisis service. If you are a veteran or loved one in immediate distress, please call the NHS on 111, or dial 999 in an emergency.

Happy 1st November everyone! My latest blog has just landed over on my website. Please share far and wide so that the tips on living with PTSD might reach those who really need them at this time of year.

It’s that time of year when the leaves are changing colour, the nights are drawing in and there’s a nip in the air.  Inevitably these seasonal changes also bring the loud unexpected sounds of fireworks.  I remember being told from an early age to keep pets at home on bonfire night and to look ...

A beautiful way of describing anxiety and how we can overcome it ...

“Often in moments of rising anxiety I seek out Mind’s info page on anxiety and panic attacks to read through what I’m feeling. It helps me in finding time to take a moment, pause and take myself out of my head.” - Chloe

Our Story

Forrest Talking Therapies started in December 2015 when a colleague asked me to supervise his private work. From here I worked with the Womens Organisation who helped me to set up my own business providing therapy and supervision on a private basis.

Prior to Forrest Talking Therapies I had many years experience of providing therapy in the NHS and charity sector. I was looking for more flexibility and variety in my working life and was excited about the challenges of working for myself.

I’ve been lucky to work with a number of local business’ who have helped me with essentials such as room hire, leaflet printing, referrals and website design.

I work with national companies and receive referrals from organisations such as BUPA and Nuffield Health. I have also previously worked with IESO Digital Health providing therapy online.
