DIABETIC EYE DISEASE.

Left unchecked and poorly managed DIABETES can be a sight threatening condition.

The Right eye below (picture on the left) shows the retina under strain from poorly controlled diabetes, although there may be no significant signs of vision loss- it’s a slippery road downhill.

The Left eye below (picture on the right) shows haemorrhaging (bleeding) and consequently a Retinal detachment caused by traction.

Unfortunately since this patient presented several weeks after the onset, prognosis is poor.

It’s highly important for all diabetic patients to have regular eye examinations at their local opticians and report any vision changes immediately.

A patient, who had no symptoms and wanted reading glasses. Unfortunately the eye with glaucoma had permanent vision loss.

Glaucoma is a disease which isn’t picked up by the patient, it’s picked up by an Eye Examination. Regular eye exams allow the disease to be picked up earlier and thus managed effectively.
