Will I Bruise After Facial Aesthetic Injections?

A common concern for many considering injectable treatments—bruising is a potential side effect and risk, but it’s important to understand why and how to manage it.

Facial aesthetics involve injecting precise amounts of product into the skin, which can sometimes cause minor damage to blood vessels, leading to bruising. While bruising is not guaranteed, certain factors such as individual anatomy, the injection technique, and aftercare can influence the likelihood and severity.

Key Factors to Consider:
Injection Site & Technique: Experienced practitioners use advanced techniques to minimise trauma to blood vessels, reducing the risk of bruising.

Skin Sensitivity: Everyone’s skin reacts differently—some individuals may bruise more easily than others.

Medications & Supplements: Blood thinners, alcohol, and certain vitamins can increase the likelihood of bruising. We would always discuss these in your medical history prior to any treatment.

Timing: Plan your treatments around any major events or special occasions to allow for any potential bruising to resolve.

Managing Bruising:
If bruising does occur, it is typically mild and resolves within a few days to a week. With proper care, most bruises can be minimised or completely avoided.

At Facial Aesthetics by Dr Hogg, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care and ensuring you are fully informed about your treatment plan. If you have concerns about bruising or any other aspect of your injectable treatment, we encourage you to discuss them with our team ahead of time.

A Decade!

The last few weeks has marked 10 years since I started working as a Doctor within the NHS. They say time flies, but it truly does. After spending 6 years at Medical School gaining both a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours and a 1st class degree in Anatomy and Human Biology, I have spent the last 10 years working within the NHS. During this time, I have worked at Regional Plastic Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery Units and currently work within the field of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery.

More recently, I have developed my love for facial anatomy within facial aesthetics and feel privileged to be chosen by so many of you. I'm excited to see what the next 10 years holds.

In the world of aesthetic treatments, one question matters more than any other: "Who is injecting your face?"

As a Doctor in Ear, Nose and Throat surgery as well as a graduate in Anatomy & Human Biology, I bring over a decade of medical and surgical expertise to every consultation. I’m also proud to be a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence and patient safety.

With an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy, I don’t just treat — I assess, plan, and tailor every procedure to you. Because aesthetic medicine isn't just about beauty — it's about precision, safety, and trust.

Whether you're considering a specific treatment or just wish to discuss the different treatment options to address a particular concern, always consider:

✅ Are they medically qualified?
✅ Do they understand complex facial anatomy?
✅ Can they manage complications safely?

Your face deserves more than a one-size-fits all approach — it deserves a comprehensive understanding of facial structure, ageing patterns, and the subtleties of natural expression. A well-informed, medically led approach ensures that the results that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe, balanced, and tailored uniquely to you.

I look forward to seeing you in clinic.

Ethics in Aesthetics: More Than Skin Deep

In a world where beauty trends move fast and filters move faster, it’s more important than ever to ground ethical choices in the aesthetics industry.  At Facial Aesthetics by Dr Hogg, we believe that ethics in aesthetics means:

✔️ Honest Consultations – We prioritise transparency over trends. If you don’t need it, we’ll tell you.
✔️ Informed Consent – We make sure every patient fully understands their options, risks, and results.
✔️ No Pressure, Ever – Your body, your choice. We’re here to guide, not persuade.
✔️ Evidence-Based Treatments – We only offer treatments we truly believe in—no gimmicks.

We're proud to be part of a new standard in aesthetics—where ethics, education, and integrity come first.

Let’s Talk Collagen

Collagen is a structural protein that plays a vital role in maintaining the firmness and elasticity of our skin. Collagen production naturally declines as we age, and from our mid-20s it slows down by about 1% per year. As we get older, this decline becomes more noticeable.

You can support your body’s natural collagen production with the right lifestyle choices including:

- Staying hydrated
- Staying active
- Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol
- Protecting skin with daily SPF
- Using skincare that supports collagen

If you are concerned about the signs of ageing, get in touch for a free personalised consultation.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

The month of May is skin cancer awareness month. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in the UK, and every year over 150,000 people are diagnosed. Most skin cancer is caused my skin damage that occurs because of exposure to UV light from the sun or sunbeds.

To reduce the risk of developing skin cancer (as well as premature ageing), cover up in the sun as well as wear a high SPF cream (ideally 50 or above). Also, don't forget to wear UV blocking sunglasses to protect your eyes.

The appearance of skin cancer can vary. But if you have any skin changes that are ongoing, unexplained or unusual for you, make an appointment with your GP.

Further information can be found on the Macmillan Cancer Support website.
