My older patients’ feet have carried them thousands of miles and they hold the most fascinating stories..✨📚

One patient recently shared a beautiful memory of her grandparents, born in the 1880s, who always stressed the importance of caring for and properly cleaning their feet. She described how it was considered a real treat to fetch their metal bathtub which was stored above the outdoor toilet, carry it down the garden path, and carefully half-fill it with boiled water from the stove where they would soak and relax until the water turned cold.

What a beautiful memory!

I grew up hearing my incredible Nanny talk about the importance of learning to sew from a young age and how a simple tweak or repair can give clothes years more life. She’s a huge reason I went on to do a Master’s in Design and specialised in vintage textiles.

Now, some of my patients who are around my Nanny’s age say the exact same thing “why would I throw it away when all it needs is a stitch?”

I’ve got such a soft spot for that war-baby mindset. Make do, mend, and make it last..👣💚

When you come in for your podiatry appointment, we carry out our neurovascular assessments. You might not notice it, but we’re also quietly checking for visual signs of circulation. One of those is hair growth on your toes.

Hairy toes are actually a good thing! They’re a sign that oxygenated blood is reaching your feet and toes properly. A noticeable lack of hair on the toes can sometimes be an early indicator of peripheral artery disease (PAD), where narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs and feet.

So, step away from the Bic and be proud of your toe locks!
