Foot & Leg Clinic Helping Everyone Move Better

⚠️ TERRIBLE CONTENT ⚠️

🐾 GREAT CAUSE 🐾

I tried to record this after work on the 1st of December and thought it would be a great idea to include my little fur babies, especially since we’re donating to (and some other doggy charities). But, it was a COMPLETE DISASTER! And I haven’t had time to re-record it, so…

Here are the two important things:

1. For every patient we treat at the Foot & Leg Clinic whether in clinic or at home, we’ll be donating £5 per person, per visit, to so the pups can enjoy a lovely Christmas meal..🐾🎄

2. Every patient treated in December will also be entered into a draw to win a free podiatry treatment in January. We will announce the winner on Wednesday 31st December..👣✨

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Birthday Medical Pedicure Treat (from his wonderful daughter)..🎉✨👣

One of the highlights of my work is meeting people with truly remarkable stories. I enjoy hearing their love stories, funny stories, vintage stories, sad stories (with happy endings), and the secret ones I’ll never tell..😉

I loved chatting with this patient and hearing about his life. Despite having more than half a decade between us, we talked about everything from Formby and family to geography, sport, and even RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Appreciating every individual who walks through the clinic doors..💚

MOVEMENT IS A GIFT..🎁👣

Working in high-risk podiatry in the NHS means I meet patients every week who would give anything (including an arm and a leg and very sadly often do experience lower limb amputations) to simply feel well again. Well enough to do things that you and I might not think twice about, like a 30-second walk to the shops for a loaf of bread.

Many of my patients reminisce about peaceful walks in their local park, crave a morning swim, or wish they could try paddle/pickleball for the first time. But their movement is limited, and it affects every part of their mental and physical wellbeing. One thing I hear time and time again is:

“I wish I’d looked after my feet better.”

It’s a powerful reminder of how incredibly lucky we are to wake up each day and be able to move freely, easily, without pain or fear. And it’s something we should never take for granted.

You have one body. One remarkable, resilient body and it deserves patience, care, and deep self-love. Treat it like the gift it is.

…when patients have their calluses debrided, they stand up at the end of the appointment and realise they’d forgotten what it feels like to walk without the discomfort those calluses were causing.

That! That’s feel..😃🌥️

There was a significant amount of onychophosis present in all of this patient’s nails.

This represents as a buildup of callus or hyperkeratotic tissue in the nail sulci and proximal nail folds, which was contributing to considerable pressure and discomfort.

In true Foot & Leg Clinic style, his nails went from looking like a Coco Pop Choco to a freshly polished pearl..✨

You are welcome (please image the AFTER because I forgot to take a picture)!

Honest, patient-first care at Foot & Leg Clinic..👣✨

When this patient first came to us, painful heavy calluses were affecting her daily life and even changing her gait. We started with an extended first appointment to properly assess and treat her feet, followed by regular 4-week visits to restore her foot health.

With consistent care and her commitment to applying a 10% urea emollient daily, her feet have improved remarkably. She’s now more comfortable, able to enjoy longer walks and other activities, and has progressed to 8-week maintenance appointments!

⚪️ Keratin Granulation ⚪️

Can’t resist a fresh coat of polish?

Well, with sock season in full swing, now’s the perfect time to give your nails a little breather by removing the polish and giving them an opportunity to recover.

Although it looks like it, this patient does not have fungal nails (onychomycosis). These rough, chalky white patches happen when the superficial nail layers become dehydrated from long-term polish wear or exposure to harsh chemicals.

So, as Bruce Buffer would say… “IT’S TIME!”
Time to take off that polish and rehydrate your nail plate. 💦✨

An ingrown toenail (onychocryptosis) in patients with diabetes is not just a minor annoyance but is a potential trigger for ulceration, infection, and amputations.

Foot and lower limb care is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!

This is why Foot & Leg Clinic treats this gentleman every 12 weeks where we carry out a neurovascular assessment, remove the spike (dead skin, callus, sock fluff, and anything else we can find), and carryout the rest of our marvellous medication pedicure..👣✨

There’s something truly special about my older patients sharing their past with me, snapshots of childhood, family stories, and the moments that shaped them.

On a recent visit, a dear patient proudly showed me their wartime medals. Listening to the memories attached to them was an honour I won’t ever forget.

Lest we forget..❤️🖤

👣✨MENS MEDICAL PEDICURE✨👣

This patient said, “It feels like there’s an extra layer on the bottom of my feet. They feel heavy.”

He’s right!

The bottom of your feet actually do have multiple layers. You have three main skin layers (the hypodermis, dermis, and epidermis). Then the epidermis itself has five sub-layers:
• Stratum basale
• Stratum spinosum
• Stratum granulosum
• Stratum lucidum
• Stratum corneum

The very top layer, the stratum corneum, is made of dead, flattened skin cells that are supposed to naturally shed (desquamate) every few weeks.

But when that shedding slows down, those dead cells start to build up. This leads to hyperkeratosis (a thick, hard layer of skin) that can feel heavy, tight, and uncomfortable.
