Starr Hills was filled with magic yesterday afternoon when the AKS Sixth Form students 'Bring Me Sunshine' group came out to visit us. Such lovely young people! Always a pleasure having them visit. The home was filled with interactions, laugher, singing and dancing. We ended the session having a Mamma Mia sing a long! Dancing and singing in great spirits. What a wonderful group they are and we are very grateful for them dedicating their time to come and visit us.

A lovely trip over to the White Church yesterday on a sunny afternoon to attend the monthly Parkinson's Charity meeting. This month there was a lovely magician, entertaining the group. Lots of laughter and wonderful to get out and interact within the community. The sunshine and daffodils were such a beautiful sight!
We have two students with us for the next two weeks from Blackpool Sixth Form which has been lovely for the residents. Having some younger faces with us daily, is always a pleasure. Lots of interaction and they're being a great help too with activities.

What could be happening behind this door?
We can't wait to show you the final result of our lounge revamp!
This week with the lounge out of action, residents have been accessing other areas around the home for activities and to relax. There has still been lots going on, just a little spread out throughout the home. This has been a refreshing change and an enjoyable week.
Update on the big reveal soon!

Happy Chinese New Year!
The Year of the Fire Horse!
We have had a lovely festive filled day celebrating the Chinese New Year. Ping our Chef made a delicious Chinese lunch and the afternoon was filled with the New Year parade on the big screen and more delicious nibbles. Lots of interacting and enjoying the day.
Don't worry we didn't forget about the pancakes too!! Pancakes were on the menu for evening meal! What a fun food filled day we have had! It's a good job we had armchair aerobics with Hazel this morning to get us moving before the food feast!
One of our residents lived in China for 14 years and has written quite a few books of this adventure. Amazing! 🇨🇳👘🔥🐴🐲🪭🏮

A Friday well spent! The morning was filled with music and movement with our armchair exercises, colourful ribbons and dancing, finished with some breathing techniques and relaxing sounds of nature. This afternoon we had the wonderful Des The Flat Cap singer performing for us. Love songs and mellow music filled the lounge. Super relaxing, lots of singing and of course some more dancing! The sunshine even made an appearance, which was lovely!

A lovely trip over to the White Church for coffee morning today. Lots of interacting with others and great to get some fresh air walking over there and back. We are so lucky to have such a lovely, welcoming community network on our doorstep! # #

Seize The Day.
A bright and fresh day yesterday, provided a perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy our local surroundings. A lovely walk around Granny's Bay, interacting with others, enjoying the views then back to warm up with a hot chocolate and some nibbles. A lovely one to one.

A snippet from last week. We are keen to keep everyone moving throughout January. It is easy to reduce movement when temperatures drop. We know that feeling of wanting to be cosy, warm and wrapped up to be left unbothered, but is so important both for mental and physical health to keep moving and be around others! So we have spent the week getting together and having fun whilst moving!
It was wonderful to have Hazel back last week for the first time since the festive break. We had a full room for bingo, history club, the big quiz and the Starr Hills service. We had lots of fun and laughter with our soft ball game session Friday morning and finished the day off with a jolly sing along, which of course lead to dancing! A lovely first week back filled with lots of smiles!

As we say goodbye to 2025, we take a moment to reflect on a year filled with so many special memories at Starr Hills. We have shared laughter, celebrations, quiet moments of kindness, and everyday joys that have meant so much to our residents, families, and staff.
We also pause to remember and hold close in our hearts those we have sadly lost this year. They remain a cherished part of our Starr Hills family, and their memories will always stay with us.
Looking ahead to 2026, we do so with hope and gratitude — excited for new experiences, more shared smiles, and many more precious moments together.
From all of us at Starr Hills, we wish our residents, families, friends, and staff a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year. 💙✨
