Beautiful words from -thinking of those we love who are no longer here…..

This Valentine’s Day, I’m thinking of the ones we love who are no longer here walking alongside us….

The ones whose laughter still echoes in certain rooms.
The ones whose names we whisper into the quiet.
The ones who shaped us in ways that time can never undo.

Love does not end when a heartbeat does.
It changes form.
It becomes memory.
It becomes warmth in the chest.
It becomes a sudden tear… and a soft smile that lingers.

If you are missing someone today, you are not alone.
Grief is simply love with nowhere obvious to go.
Love is eternal it does not disappear.
It is felt, beyond time and beyond form.

May you feel held in the remembering.
May your heart be gentle with itself.
May love, in all its forms, surround you today.

With love,
Fiona

Angel valentine….so beautiful by -The Write Way…..

I wrote this poem a year ago with the lead up to Valentine’s Day. I had a very special friend in mind as she would be experiencing her first Valentine’s Day without her husband. I asked her if she would title it for me.

It’s called “Angel Valentine”

If you lost your spouse and you would like to share something about them today, I am listening 🤍🤍

We’re proud to display the Golden Charter seal

The Golden Charter seal represents trust, reassurance, and connection.

For us, it shows that we’re part of a nationwide network of independent funeral directors who share the same standards of care and professionalism.

When families see the seal, they know they can rely on us - a local, independent business supported by one of the UK’s largest funeral plan providers.*

*Based on a Golden Charter analysis and independent research of the funeral plan market size as of December 2024.

FACT FRIDAY-THE WEARING OF THE TOP HAT BY FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND REASONS FOR DOING SO
Funeral directors wear top hats primarily as a sign of respect, dignity, and tradition rooted in the Victorian era. This formal attire signifies the solemnity of the occasion and helps identify the director as the leader of the procession, providing a sense of comfort and structure to mourners.
Historical Tradition: The practice originates from the 18th and 19th centuries when top hats were standard, formal mourning attire for men.
Symbol of Respect and Authority: The hat symbolizes the serious and reverent tone of the funeral, representing honour, dignity, and professionalism.
Visibility and Identification: The tall, distinctive hat makes the funeral director easily identifiable to mourners, signalling who is in charge of the proceedings.
Ceremonial Role: The hat, often worn with a tailcoat and gloves, acts as a visual cue for order in the procession and signals to the public to show respect.
Emotional Comfort: The traditional, formal attire is believed to bring a sense of
stability and assurance to families during a difficult time.
While not all modern funeral directors wear them, those who do are honouring these deep-rooted traditions and maintaining high standards of reverence for the deceased.

Female funeral directors' top hats are typically shorter than men's
to balance traditional, Victorian-era formality with a distinctively feminine, elegant aesthetic, rather than simply mimicking male attire. These hats, sometimes referred to as dressage hats or specialized lady's top hats, are designed to fit with tailored suits or skirts while maintaining the solemnity of the occasion.
Key reasons for the difference in style include:
Distinctiveness and Elegance: The "Ladies in Hats" movement often emphasizes femininity, adopting a style that sets them apart from the "Dickensian" look of male funeral directors while still appearing highly professional.
Design Variations: Female top hats often feature decorative elements such as tails, drapes, smaller ribbons, or even veils, which contrast with the plain, tall silk/fur hats worn by men.
Proportion and Fit: Female top hats are generally designed to fit a smaller head size and are often shorter (sometimes 3–4 inches) compared to the standard, taller men's hats.
Heritage and Ettiquette: Traditionally, male funeral directors would remove their hats in formal settings, while women kept their hats on as part of their outfit. This allowed the women's hat to be designed as a permanent fixture of their formal attire.
While some female funeral directors may opt for a full-sized top hat, the shorter version is a common choice for a modern, bespoke look that maintains a "gentle touch".
