CEREBRAL PALSY AWARENESS DAY 💚
"I think we are looking at a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. You will need to prepare yourselves. Harper is going to have a very difficult life ahead of her."
Sitting in that consultant's office as first time parents with our 8 month old baby, we still remember every single word. Harper had just received a life changing diagnosis and our world had come crashing down around us.
We were told she would NEVER talk.
We were told she would NEVER walk.
Fast forward nine years later. Countless hospital stays at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charity and Alder Hey, major spinal surgery, constant physiotherapy, medication trials and literally hundreds of hospital appointments to date.
But what the consultant didn't tell us that day?
That Harper would become the most determined little girl who strives for her own independence, never gives up and is constantly progressing and defying the odds.
Our world crashed that day because we knew nothing about this condition (the hospital didn't even have any leaflets to give us!) so today and every day we spread awareness of Cerebral Palsy so that other families sitting in that consultant's office have a better understanding of the unique journey they are about to go through.
So that they know that Cerebral Palsy is NOT a tragedy.
So that they know it will, eventually, be ok 💚
