In ancient times, there was no such thing as a doctor, a local village woman would mix spices, herbs, and treatments for illnesses. She may also be the midwife... During the 16th century, when the witch hunts began, most of these women were burnt at the stake..
Otherwise, they would still exist today, but women became frightened to practice their ancient knowledge, and as much of it was never written down, it has been lost. RIP to all those poor ladies.🙏
