💡 First Aid Tip – Recovery Position

If a person is unconscious but breathing normally, place them in the recovery position.
This keeps their airway open and prevents them from choking on their tongue or vomit.

👉 Remember: If they stop breathing, call 999 and start CPR immediately.

💡 First Aid Tip – Choking

If someone is choking but can still cough or make a sound, encourage them to keep coughing.

Only step in with back blows or abdominal thrusts if they cannot breathe, speak, or make a noise. 🚑

⚠️ A quick word on suction devices: these are often advertised online, but current guidance (Resus Council UK) is that they are not recommended for first aid use. They are designed for trained medical professionals, not for schools, parents, or workplaces.

👉 The proven approach remains:
✅ Encourage coughing
✅ Back blows
✅ Abdominal or chest thrusts
✅ Call 999

💚 Last week Cavell First Aid Academy was busy delivering Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and Paediatric First Aid (PFA) during school inset days.

Staff practised CPR, AED use, choking scenarios and more — and we also discussed the latest Ofsted changes to first aid for EYFS. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and commitment from school teams to keeping pupils safe. 👏

Your Defibrillator Might Just Save a Life—At Any Time, Day or Night

We’ve just been notified that the defibrillator outside Silver Road Community Centre was marked unavailable today after potential use by East of England Ambulance Service. This means it may have helped someone in need—and that’s exactly why these devices need to be accessible 24/7.

Sudden cardiac arrest doesn’t keep office hours.
That’s why public defibrillators must be:
• Easy to find
• Accessible round the clock
• Well maintained and monitored

We work with local communities and organisations to support this mission—because every second counts. If you manage a defib or know one that’s locked away after hours, let’s change that.

Thank you to everyone helping to keep these lifesaving devices available. And if you’re in the NR3 area—this unit will be checked and restocked as soon as possible.
