With You This Christmas

At Christmas, when the world seems to speak of joy and celebration, many are quietly carrying grief.

We’re reminded of a moment from history. On Christmas Day in 1914, in the midst of the First World War, soldiers on opposing sides laid down their weapons.
The gunfire stopped.
Men who had been enemies hours before shared songs, small gifts, and even a simple game of football.

For a brief time, sorrow and fear were paused, and humanity took the lead.
That moment did not erase the pain of war, nor did it undo the losses already suffered.

But it showed something deeply human: even in the darkest seasons, it is possible to pause, to breathe, and to connect.
For those who are grieving this Christmas, we know the season may feel very different.

There is no right way to mark the days, no expectation to feel festive, and no timeline for loss.
Joy and sadness can sit side by side, and sometimes peace comes only in quiet moments.

At Gordon Barber, it is our privilege to walk alongside families during their most difficult times.

This Christmas, we simply want you to know that you are remembered, supported, and not alone.
With our warmest thoughts, especially for those missing someone dearly this Christmas.

Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication🎉

Today we proudly celebrate Jennie Myers for reaching an incredible milestone - 20 years of service with Dignity Funerals!

Jennie's unwavering commitment, compassion and professionalism have touched countless families during their most difficult times. Her dedication to providing care and dignity has made a lasting impact on our team and the communities we serve.

Thank you Jennie for two decades of exceptional service both here at Gordon Barber and also with L Fulcher Funeral Directors in Bury St Edmunds where she lived and worked for several years before returning to Norwich.

Please join us in congratulating Jennie on this amazing achievement. 👏

Join us at St Andrew's Church, Church Lane, Eaton on Sunday 14th December at 6.30pm for an evening of carols, reflection and community at the Silent Night Carol Concert, which we support every year.

This event is especially for those who may be feeling lonely or coping with bereavement during the festive season. Come and experience the warmth of carols, gentle conversation and a space to feel connected. During the service there will be a time to light a candle in memory of your loved one, if you so wish.

Following the service, we will be serving refreshments in the church hall.

Let's come together to share hope, comfort and the true spirit of Christmas. 💛

There are many different ways you can personalise a funeral and one way is how the deceased is transported to the service.

Recently, we were privileged to look after the funeral of Mr Keith Alexander who founded Norfolk Recovery and spent most of his working life recovering vehicles from Norfolk's roads, including the number 26 bus that became stuck in a sink hole which appeared in Earlham Road back in 1988.

Keith's family thought it would be fitting for the hearse to be transported on the back of one of his recovery trucks, as if it was being recovered, and his family have kindly allowed us to post some photographs of the hearse being prepared before leaving Norfolk Recovery's premises for Keith's final journey.

✨Silent Night Carol Service of Remembrance and Hope✨

Last night at St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft we held our Silent Night Carol Service of Remembrance and Hope.

The gentle glow of candles, the timeless carols, and shared moments of remembrance created an atmosphere of peace and hope for all who attended.

Canon Simon Stokes delivered a truly moving service and the choir, [as they did last year], sang beautifully. Our colleagues Aneliese, Steve and David (pictured with Canon Simon Stokes) all did readings and Aneliese and Amanda read out the names of all of the people who were being remembered.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this service so special. May the message of light and love continue to guide us through this season. 🌟
