One of my professional goals for 2025 is to help more adults and older adults with the awareness, understanding and tools, to slow down sarcopenia (muscle loss, reduced strength & reduced physical performance).
Each year, from age 50, our muscle mass decreases by 1-2% and muscle strength falls by 1.5% in our 50s and 3% annually from age 60.
These drops in muscle mass and muscular strength can eventually lead to frailty and a higher risk of falls.
As we age, if we’re not regularly taking part in resistance based training, we’re at risk of a reduction in bone mineral density, osteoporosis, heart disease arthritis and type 2 diabetes.
I speak to a LOT of adults and older adults regularly about the significant benefits of resistance based training.
Resistance based training/weight lifting can help prevent: bone loss, increase strength through improved levels of lean tissue, and in turn help to reduce the risk of fractures and improve overall functional ability & mobility.
Your basic 150 minutes of exercise a week, should include 2 x resistance based training sessions.
The average age of my Personal Training clients is 50 years.
The improvements I’ve seen from my clients in their respective sports, careers, and quality of life from their engagement in resistance based exercise and consuming a nutrient-rich diet is amazing and inspiring!
If you’d like to make, what could be, a life changing decision for your health, exercise performance and quality of life, get in touch and enquire about my nutrition and/or my 1-1 personal training services.
