So inspiring. We all need a purpose and to see organisations helping those achieve what used to be seen as impossible is incredible to see
“I was sat in hospital thinking ‘What can I do, what sport can I do now my legs are gone?’, because, like everyone, I'd seen the Paralympics happening, but had never thought about all that goes into it.
So I started looking, initially looking for what I thought were easy wins, and for some reason I thought of pole vaulting! I thought ‘Well there can’t be any amputees pole vaulting so I’ll do that!’
So I did that for a little bit, I also returned to sailing for Great Britain but eventually started doing long jump. I was still doing pole vault, and I managed to get to a point where I wasn’t going to break my neck doing it - but when I started working with British Athletics and and met my coach Roger, he said ‘You'd better stop doing that because it's just terrifying watching a guy with no legs trying to fling himself up on a pole!’ And yeah I think he had a fair point you know, I was getting enough injuries already just with the long jump!
It’s been a tough road, like most people I was naive to how hard it would be.
At the start I was constantly asking my management ‘Why am i not there yet? I think I'm good enough’, and you don’t realise when you’re training on your own or just in the UK how tough the standard is - my first international event when a lot of my competition were there was a real shock, I couldn't believe how far behind I was!
Eventually you learn, you watch these guys and you realise that they've been at it a long time so there's no shame in it that you're not as good as them yet.
I enjoy still trying to perfect it and get better at it, and every time I make a little gain it feels great and every time I have a little fallback I make an excuse and try to find a way to make it not my fault!
But when I got into athletics I definitely felt I was in the right place and that's important - I definitely thought ‘I know this isn't going to be an easy journey but I know I'm in the right place and I'm doing something that I'm looking forward to every single day’.”

Tier 4 update:
Under current guidance healthcare CAN remain open. At SR Physio we assure you we will continue to wear appropriate PPE, clean all equipment and minimise contact as best we can. We understand you may wish to remain at home and will support you any way we can when you are at home.
We have taken the decision to only operate in the open gym space and not use the clinic room. Although we have been advised we can continue with appropriate manual therapy (sports massage and hands on treatment) we will not be doing so to keep contact to a minimum. We will still offer virtual appointments to consult on injuries and pain related problems and can book an appointment via info@srphysio.co.uk.
Our website www.srphysio.co.uk has free advice for sports injuries and many long term conditions. We recommend looking through the website particularly if you need to shield.
Government guidance has recommended clinically vulnerable people to shield.
If anyone has any concerns or questions do not hesitate to contact via 01603208238 or info@srphysio.co.uk
Many thanks for your ongoing support, care and vigilance during these difficult times
At SR Physio we will work with you in our Norwich location. We listen to what your worries are & what difficulties you are facing. Instead of looking for a diagnosis & explanation we want to help you be independent & bring enjoyment to your life.

At SR Physio we are not your average physio, personal trainer or therapist. We WILL NOT see you for 15 minutes, move your body about a bit, tell you yep that should be painful, then give you some boring exercises to do every day even if it is painful and ask you to come back next week, tell you to carry on no matter whether it is better or worse.
The first thing that we WILL do is offer you a cup of tea or coffee... and please tell us off if we don’t!
The second thing is find out what the problem is and what your goal is. Pain, frustration, difficulty, weakness are all significant but they don’t matter unless WE BOTH understand WHY that is an issue.... We want to understand your goals and your reasons for seeking out therapy. If it is for specialist advice from experienced and qualified professionals then great, if it is to be able to drive again, even better, if it is to be able to hold your loved one’s hand and walk down the straight - FANTASTIC. We really care about what matters to you most and will never stop working for you if you have the motivation to keep on going.
We also don’t take ourselves too seriously....
Physiotherapy literally means physical therapy. We will try all means possible to STRENGTHEN, even if you have been told it is not worth it... we really like a challenge. Our knowledge in neurological conditions, medical conditions, muscle and soft tissue conditions allow us to help all that want it.
We believe improvement is based on consistency, and to achieve that consistency it is our responsibility to make all involvement with us appropriate for your needs and hopefully disguised as “physio”.
We are very lucky to be based at Able2B gym - a bespoke, specialist therapy and exercise unit capable of helping all no matter your ability. We also use of a private clinic room, if necessary, however our goal is to utilise as much of the specialist therapy equipment in the gym as possible - for you!
This is where our uniqueness really tells. We will always try something different to improve your function, make what is normally difficult easier by focused FUN-ctional exercises and use specialised equipment to make it efficient, safe and to push you as hard as possible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch. If you have any hesitations we would love to hear from you and will help you in anyway we can.
Lastly if you have been told you can’t, you won’t and you should simply accept the way things are, we REALLY want to hear from you.
Contact us on 07920004793 and we can discuss what you want to achieve. You can even come in and have a coffee... on us, and decide whether we are the right fit for you - no strings attached.
