Art brings the generations together! ✨🙌
Art has become a magical language bringing together the generations at Heron Lodge Care Home.
Honeysuckle Carlyon-Blanchard, 19, of Burgh Road, Bradwell, is just starting out on a career in art having completed her studies at East Norfolk Sixth Form, in Gorleston, with a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and two A* A Levels in Fine Art and 3D Design.
However, before embarking on her degree course at Brighton University’s School of Fine Art next month she is spending the summer as an artist in residence at the Kingsley Healthcare care home in Norwich Road, Wroxham.
Honeysuckle said she was thrilled to have found a job where she could bring her passion for art fully to bear.
“I was a bit nervous at the beginning because I had no experience of teaching apart from being taught. However, it has worked out really well and I have enjoyed getting to know the residents and understanding them as people,” she said.
After their mid-morning cup of tea, residents June Taylor, 87, Doreen Martin, 81, and Chris Gant, 91, enthusiastically set about painting card flowers to create a bright collage.
“Every day is different and every resident has their own preferences and interests. Some simply like to watch me paint,” said Honeysuckle.
The bright paintings and collages in the lounge are evidence of the success of their joint endeavours and Honeysuckle has been set one more challenge by Operations Manager Stuart Gollands before she leaves for university.
“He has allocated a wall in the home to become a gallery wall for all our art. It will be lovely for the residents and their families to see it on permanent display,” she said.
Residents agree they will Miss Honeysuckle’s youthful presence when she goes off to university.
“She’s a lovely girl. It won’t be the same place without her,” said Mrs Taylor.
