I'm an experienced and cross discipline Personal Trainer, Clinical Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher (36 years practising), Pilates Specialist , Fitness Instructor and award winning Dance Fitness Instructor. I am also a fully trained and qualified Sports Massage Therapist, Reflexologist and experienced Counsellor, having worked in the charity sector before starting my own private practice. I am a registered Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist with CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity). I can help you achieve that goal. Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) is a powerful backbend that energises both body and mind and a pose we practiced yesterday in classes.

The benefits of this powerful backbend are

Strong arms, legs, and spine
Opens the chest and lungs for deeper breathing
Believed to boost energy and reduce tiredness
Improves flexibility in the back and shoulders
Stimulates focus and confidence

As discussed in class last night, you have to be very careful to build up to the pose, always get guidance from a professional yoga teacher first. It was my last evening Core Conditioning and late Yoga class at Long Stratton Leisure Centre last night , the end of an era! So I'll leave you with that one to practice! It improves balance and stability
Strengthens legs, ankles, and core
Opens the chest, shoulders, and hips
Enhances posture and body alignment

Yoga has been around for many thousands of years, it is pure, not messed about with or dressed up.... It works.... Why would you want anything that isn't Yoga? 🤷 I've been practicing Yoga since I was a child, I can't imagine it not being part of my fitness for body and mind.

'Cardio' isn’t just about fitness , it’s about improving your health.

It's important for us all, but even more so in middle age when our cardio vascular health risks often increase.

Regular cardio vascular activity helps strengthen your heart, boosts energy, can support weight management, with the right nutrition and improves mood.

And it doesn’t have to be intense, it just needs to elevate your heart rate (within safe zones). It doesn't have to be running ... a brisk walk, a dance class, skipping, all count.

It helps to remember, your heart is a muscle that should be trained like the others. Look after your heart and It should look after you. ❤️

I know you are all finding it hard to get into the two SOSA Dance classes at Long Stratton Leisure Centre each week. So to make it easier for you to get on your favourite class , we are adding a THIRD one to give you all a chance to breathe a sigh of relief and not being on those buttons at 9pm on the dot! Third class starts Monday 30th March . So you can come and and then do some resistance work in Yogalates afterwards! Come and find out what all the fun is about! Gaining and keeping strength becomes increasingly important for women in midlife.

Hormonal changes can contribute to muscle loss and reduced bone density — but measured strength training exercises can help counteract this reduction.

Done safely and correctly, it will help maintain strength, balance and confidence in everyday movement.

Fitness doesn't have to be 'showy' or the latest Tik Tok or internet fad!
The humble squat is a fantastic functional exercise, great for us as we age, retaining strength and bone health. As always though, technique is key.
A squat that is performed well can strengthen your legs, glutes and core, improve your balance ( key as we age) and protect joints.
Poor technique, however, will place unnecessary strain on your knees and back.
That’s why learning the right form and progression is so important — especially in midlife or when returning to exercise.

The internet doesn't give all the answers. Consult with a properly qualified and registered Fitness professional to get the safest advice and the exercises that are right for you. 💪

More scientific research reflects what I've always said ..short bursts of exercise throughout the day can improve heart health, metabolism and overall fitness.
Even a few minutes of brisk walking, strength training or mobility work can stimulate your muscles, boost circulation and improve energy levels.
Fitness doesn’t have to mean long gym sessions — regular, consistent and meaningful, functional movement matters and makes a difference! 💪

Loaf 4 .... Probably the least successful after the first one. This one used no rice flour, just gluten free flour and cassava and potato. It mixed better but still needed more water and 'supervision' during the mixing process in the machine. However, despite all that it lost its form in the proving and became quite heavy in the baking. Definitely one for just toasting! But at least it's edible. I haven't had to throw one away since the first one, so that's a bonus! The quest for a gluten free, egg and dairy free daily loaf of bread with no nasties or chemically produced enhancers continues ......

It's a bit murky in the city this morning. The Duchess is quite glad to be back in her bed! 😂😂

Search for the ultimate easy Gluten, dairy,egg free loaf with no nasties in it continues.....

Loaf number 3. A different mixture of cassava, rice and potato ... Still needed lots more water to bring it to any kind of dough! It's probably the one that has held its shape more, but is by far the most dense. Tastes ok , but only good for toasting .

The quest continues.... I won't be beaten ! 💪💪

Olcote Wellbeing embraces all aspects of fitness and wellbeing. From the art of Reflexology and the teaching of Yoga and Relaxation, to Personal Training, Fitness Classes, Massage & Holistic therapies & Counselling. I have a specialism in Pilates and core strength conditioning, I also work closely with programmes for the more mature exerciser to maintain balance, condition and tone in later life. I’ll help you get fitter, feel better from the inside out!
