The workplace benefits of an Occupational Health program 👨🏭👩🏭👷👷

Physiotherapy is an important part of occupational health and can help to reduce the risk of injury and promote healthy working practices.

Physiotherapists are trained to assess the physical demands of a job and provide advice on how to carry out tasks safely and efficiently.

Here are some of the workplace benefits of an Occupational Health program.

✅ Reduced sickness absence

Physiotherapy can help employees recover from injuries and illnesses more quickly, which can lead to reduced sickness absence. This can save employers money on sick pay and lost productivity.

✅ Improved productivity

Employees who are physically fit and healthy are more productive. Physiotherapy can help employees improve their strength, flexibility, and endurance, leading to increased productivity.

✅ Reduced risk of accidents

Physiotherapy can help employees reduce the risk of accidents by improving their posture, balance, and coordination. This can save employers money on workers' compensation claims.

✅ Improved morale

Employees who feel healthy and fit are likelier to have a positive attitude towards their work. This can lead to improved morale and productivity.

✅ Reduced stress

Physiotherapy can help employees reduce stress by improving their coping mechanisms and teaching them how to manage their workload. This can lead to improved mental health and well-being.

Our services can be easily incorporated into your existing occupational health services or can be just as effective as a separate service.⠀

Are you struggling to get motivated on your fitness journey? 🤔 If so, have you considered finding an exercise buddy? 🏃🏃

Sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation to exercise alone. Having someone to work out with can help you stay accountable, push yourself harder, and have more fun, while you're doing it.

Here are a few reasons why having an exercise buddy is important:

✅ Accountability: When you have someone to work out with, you're less likely to skip a workout. You know that your buddy is counting on you, so you're more likely to show up.

✅ Motivation: Having someone to work out with can help you push yourself harder. You don't want to let your buddy down, so you're more likely to give it your all.

✅ Fun: Working out with an exercise buddy can be more fun than working out alone. You can talk, laugh, and support each other.

If you don't know any friends who want to keep fit, try asking your family or coworkers, join a fitness class or find an online workout buddy.

An exercise buddy is a great way to stay motivated and reach your fitness goals.

So what are you waiting for? Find a buddy and start your fitness journey today!

If you are in pain and unable to exercise, get in touch to learn how Physiotherapy can help you get back to enjoying it again.

🌟 November is Pomegranate Month! 🌟

Did you know that pomegranates aren't just delicious; they're also packed with health benefits that can be helpful during recovery and physiotherapy? Here’s why adding pomegranates to your diet could be a great choice:

🍎 Antioxidant Powerhouse: Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants, especially polyphenols, which help reduce inflammation. For those recovering from injuries, inflammation management is key to supporting the healing process.

💪 Joint Support: Studies suggest that the anti-inflammatory properties of pomegranate juice may help ease joint pain and stiffness, potentially benefiting those with conditions like osteoarthritis or anyone working on joint mobility.

🩸 Circulation Boost: Pomegranates can promote healthy blood flow, supporting efficient oxygen and nutrient delivery to muscles, an essential factor for muscle repair and recovery in physiotherapy.

🍊 Immune Support: They’re also high in Vitamin C, which plays a role in immune support, helpful for anyone under physical stress or recovering from an injury.

Remember, pomegranates are a great addition to a balanced diet, but won’t replace the importance of personalised nutrition information from a health professional.

If you’re experiencing bone, joint, or muscle pain that might be due to a vitamin deficiency, reach out to us; we’re here to help you stay strong and healthy this winter.

We know a bad back is no laughing matter, so before lifting anything, remember these 5 things 👇👇👇

1️⃣ Assess the load

Before you lift anything, take a moment to assess the load. How heavy is it? Is it balanced? Is it awkward to handle? If you're not sure if you can lift it safely, ask for help.

2️⃣ Get a good grip

Make sure you have a good grip on the load before you lift it. This will help you maintain control and prevent the load from slipping.

3️⃣ Bend your knees and keep your back straight.

When you lift, bend your knees and keep your back straight. This will help you avoid putting strain on your back.

4️⃣ Lift with your legs

Don't try to lift the load with your back. Instead, use your legs to lift the load. This will help you lift more safely and easily.

5️⃣ Avoid twisting

If you need to twist, turn your whole body, not just your waist.

What are the benefits? 🤔

Being able to lift correctly can benefit you in the following ways:

✅ Reduces your risk of back pain and other injuries
✅ Improves your lifting performance
✅ Increases your productivity
✅ Helps you stay safe at work

⚠️ Remember, lifting correctly is important for your occupational health. Following these simple steps can reduce your risk of injury and stay safe at work.

🚀 Boost Your Bone & Muscle Health This Winter with Vitamin D! 🦴💪

We’re often asked if supplements can support bone and muscle health. While we’re not nutritionists, we recommend Vitamin D, especially during the darker months when natural sunlight is limited.

Why Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, teeth, and muscles.

Our bodies produce it through sunlight exposure, and it’s also found in foods like oily fish, eggs, and fortified products. However, with limited sunlight, many people may not get enough, which can lead to issues like bone pain or even conditions like osteomalacia in adults and rickets in children.

Studies show 1 in 6 UK adults has a Vitamin D deficiency, particularly during winter and more so in the Northern Hemisphere.

Winter Vitamin D Tips:

✅ Get outside daily for 10-15 minutes, even on cloudy days
✅ Eat Vitamin D-rich foods like salmon, eggs, and fortified milk or juice
✅ Consider a Vitamin D supplement available at pharmacies
✅ Speak to your doctor to find the right dosage for you

If you’re experiencing bone, joint, or muscle pain, get in touch – we’re here to help you stay strong and healthy this winter.

🌿 International Stress Awareness Week 🌿

Stress doesn’t just affect the mind; it impacts the body, too.

As physios, we see how stress leads to muscle tension, poor posture, and fatigue. But here’s the good news: physiotherapy can help.

✅ Relieve tension in the neck, shoulders, and back
✅ Improve breathing and posture for better energy
✅ Encourage movement to lower stress hormones
✅ Boost recovery through tailored advice and stretches

🧘Small changes like regular movement breaks and posture checks can make a big difference.

This week, take a moment to move, stretch, breathe — and if you need guidance, we’re here to help.

💬 Your Work From Home Posture Checklist: 3 Quick Fixes

Slouching at the kitchen table turns your Work From Home day into "Pain-from-Home." If you only remember three things, let them be these quick, non-negotiable checks for your posture:

Your 3-Point Posture Power-Up:

🪑 The Elbow Rule: Your forearms should be roughly parallel to the floor, forming a 90-100 degree bend at the elbow when typing. This means your chair or surface might need adjusting!

💻 The Eye-Level Trick: Place your screen or laptop on a stack of books so the top third of the screen is at your eye level. No more neck-craning to look down!

🚶 The 50/10 Rule: For every 50 minutes you sit and focus, take a 10-minute break to stand, stretch, and move. Set a recurring phone timer right now!

If you're struggling with persistent pain, we can assess your posture and design a routine specifically to offset long sitting days.

✨ Direct Access Physiotherapy ✨ Ormskirk ✨ No GP Referral Needed ✨⠀

What does “Direct Access” mean to a person seeking physiotherapy treatment?⠀

Simply put, "Direct Access" means you can see a physiotherapist without getting a referral from your GP or hospital, as referrals are sometimes required to access physiotherapy treatment, especially after surgery or an accident.⠀

In some countries, such as the UK, you can usually see a physiotherapist without a referral for most conditions.⠀

However, there are exceptions. Such as if you are under 16 years old or have a specific condition requiring a GP or hospital assessment.⠀

If you’re unsure whether you need a referral, it is always best to check with your GP, hospital, or physiotherapist.⠀

Here are some benefits of "Direct Access" physiotherapy:⠀

✅ You can access physiotherapy treatment more quickly.⠀
✅ You can choose your physiotherapist without being limited to those on your GP's or hospital referral list.⠀
✅ You could save money. Some private health insurance plans cover physiotherapy without a referral.⠀

If you are considering physiotherapy, this could be a great way to access the treatment required quickly and easily.⠀

If you’d like to know more about our “Direct Access” physiotherapy services, please get in touch.⠀
