We’re really pleased to welcome Carol Harmston-Dean to the Burscough Neuro Physiotherapy team.

Carol is an experienced counsellor who has spent many years supporting people as they adjust to life after change.

When your health changes, life can suddenly feel unfamiliar. Things that once came easily may now take more effort, and emotions can become mixed — frustration, sadness, even guilt.

Many of our patients hear the phrase “Aren’t you doing well!” — but underneath, they can feel lost or unsure of who they are now.

Counselling offers the chance to slow down and make sense of all of that — to talk openly, explore feelings, and begin to rebuild a sense of balance and confidence again.

It can also be a huge source of support for family members or carers, who often put their own feelings aside while focusing on someone they love.

Carol’s gentle, understanding approach helps people process what they’ve been through and start to see a way forward — one small step at a time.

We’re so glad to have her as part of the team, offering emotional support alongside our physiotherapy services for those who need it most.

If you or someone close to you would like to find out more about counselling, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Sometimes just talking can make a real difference.

Such lovely feedback to start the week! 💙

After a month in hospital and very little rehab, this gentleman got in touch for help with his wife’s stroke recovery.

With regular sessions and Sharon’s support, she’s now standing again with a frame — something she was told might not be possible.

Recovery doesn’t have to stop when hospital physio ends. With the right support, it’s amazing what can be achieved.

If you or someone close to you needs a bit of help to keep moving forward, we’re here to help.

As a team, we’re really grateful for all the kind feedback we receive — this recent Google review was left for Olly, one of our specialist neuro physios:

“This is one of the best decisions I have made regarding tackling my condition... I’m walking more naturally and in less pain.”

We often hear this from people who’ve finished their NHS physio and been left to manage on their own — with the feeling that nothing more can be done.

At Burscough Neuro Physio, we’re a specialist neuro physiotherapy practice, helping people better manage long-term neurological conditions. That often means rebuilding confidence, improving mobility, and supporting people to stay as independent as possible.

We also aim to bring something else that’s just as important: hope and positivity. Because even with complex or progressive conditions, there’s nearly always something we can do.

If you or a loved one is managing a long-term condition and starting to lose hope, get in touch to see how we can help.

A few weeks ago we shared some lovely photos of our patient Jean, who was visiting Durham Cathedral to attend the Royal Maundy service, having been nominated to receive the Maundy Money for outstanding Christian services in her community. We sat down with Jean shortly afterwards to chat about the day and all of the incredible things she’s achieved despite her MS diagnosis. You can now read her inspiring story in full on our website by following the link below.

Thank you to Jean for taking the time to share her experience of living well with MS, and the role that specialist neuro physiotherapy has played in this.

We all had a great evening on Tuesday with one of our evening training workshops — topping up our knowledge around all things upper limb recovery to help us better support our patients.

It was a great chance for the team to come together, catch up, and (of course) enjoy some pizza!

Huge thanks to Tim Walton once again for sharing his time and expertise in leading the session. And a big thank you to our patient Ben for being such a willing and helpful volunteer.

We always come away from these sessions with lots of exciting ideas to bring to our patients. Well done team!

This weekend some of the team had a wonderful afternoon at our patient Peter and his wife Edith’s fabulous global garden. The couple have devoted over 60 years to developing the one acre plot into a fascinating and beautiful space to explore and unwind, and regularly take part in village open garden events as well as holding private viewings.

Peter and Edith have a real passion for travel and this is reflected in the variety of species found in their garden, including a mature Ginko tree which is native to China, as well as an array of sculptures, carvings, ceramics and other artefacts which Edith has used carefully throughout.

Over tea and some delicious homemade cakes we discovered more about the couple’s incredible life and travels together. In 1958 Peter was part of a biological expedition to the sub-Antarctic South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, where he made a plane table survey of Bird Island. The Cordall Stacks, two large rock stacks just off the coast of this island, were even named after him!

We can’t thank Edith and Peter enough for inviting us to look around and their generous hospitality. ☺️

Great to see Jeff in the clinic today with his superstar physio, Christine!

Jeff had a stroke in 2023 and has faced a number of setbacks since, which affected his walking, balance, and overall mobility.

We first assessed Jeff at home back in February, and it’s been brilliant to see how much progress he’s made since then.

He now comes into our rehab centre in Ormskirk — with growing confidence and a real improvement in his mobility.

The smiles say it all.

Well done Jeff (and Christine!) — keep up the great work.

It was a real pleasure to visit the Derby Day Centre’s Open Day on Friday in Ormskirk.

Along with Lesley from Radfield Home Care Ormskirk and Joe from the Alzheimer's Society – great to spend time with others who share our passion for keeping people active, mobile, and living well at home.

A big thank you to the team at Derby Day Centre for the warm welcome.

It’s services like this that make such a difference – helping people stay connected, combat loneliness, and get the daytime support they need to stay well and independent.

If you or a loved one are looking for that bit of extra support, we’d absolutely recommend finding out more about what they offer. Community care at its best 💙
