Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity Raising funds for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust to give patients the best possible care ✨🧡

Here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity, we are dedicated to making a difference to the thousands of patients treated at our hospitals every year. Incredible things are happening across our hospitals each and every day, but there will always be a need for those added extras that can make all the difference to our patients. This is where our charity comes in; we’ve made it our mission to help fund the items at our hospitals which are over and above what the NHS can provide. We make this possible by raising vital funds to ensure our hospitals are equipped with the very latest in technology, enabling vital research and making our hospitals a little more comfortable for patients and their families. With your support, we can ensure that the patients treated at our hospital have the best possible care, in the very best facilities.

Our amazing fundraisers are currently taking on the incredible Angkor Wat Trek in Cambodia! Over five days, they’re trekking through rainforests, paddy fields and mountain foothills in around 30°C heat - all to raise vital funds for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust! 🙌🇰🇭🛕

Among our inspirational trekkers is 26-year-old Harley Walsh from Preston. Just a few years ago she was a full-time wheelchair user due to a rare neurological condition. Thanks to life-changing surgery at Royal Preston Hospital, she regained her mobility - and now she’s trekking up to 25 km a day through Cambodia to say “thank you”.

Harley’s journey from wheelchair to world trekker is nothing short of inspiring, showing just how life-changing hospital care can be 🧡

We couldn’t be prouder of Harley and all our Angkor Wat trekkers, what an achievement!

We’re delighted that lots of local companies and community groups have already signed up to support our Give a Gift campaign this Christmas - helping us collect presents for patients who will be spending Christmas Day in hospital at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust! 🎁 ✨

It’s amazing to have such fantastic community support, and one of the wonderful businesses taking part is Virgin Money UK Preston!

Naima Patel from the Preston store said:
“We’d absolutely love to take part in the Christmas Give a Gift initiative again this year, it was a real joy to be involved last time and we’re thrilled to help spread festive cheer to patients once more.”

Spending the festive season in hospital is something we all hope to avoid, but for many, it’s a reality. Through Give a Gift, our charity aims to make sure every patient waking up in hospital on Christmas Day receives a small present to bring a smile to their face.

🎅 This year, we’re once again appealing to local companies, community groups, and schools to set up gift collection points, and on Monday 15th December, with the help of Stagecoach, our charity team will be out on the road collecting donations, visiting supporters, and spreading Christmas cheer across the community!

If your organisation would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you, please contact Lucy Clark at lucy.clark@lthtr.nhs.uk.

Thank you SO much to Rachael Carroll, who last weekend took on an incredible 10-mile trail run at Helvellyn, and absolutely smashed it in 2 hours, 21 minutes! 🏃‍♀️💪🧡

Inspired by our recent post about raising funds for new gym equipment for staff on our Critical Care Unit (CRCU), Rachael decided she wanted to help too - and has raised an amazing £707.50 for the ward!

We’re so grateful for your fantastic effort and generosity, Rachael - thank you for going the extra mile (literally!) for our staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust! 🥰

🌏✨ A huge good luck and thank you to everyone taking on the incredible trek to Angkor Wat for our hospital charities!

This weekend, our amazing supporters Rad Tingle, Dawn Fawthrop, Harley Walsh, Rebecca Brierley and Sandra Latimer will be representing Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity and Baby Beat, joining a wider team of 27 trekkers in total from across Rosemere Cancer Foundation and our hospital charities. 🇰🇭 🙌

Together, the group will fly out to Cambodia before embarking on a five-day adventure through paddy fields, forests, and the foothills of Mount Phnom Kulen - finishing at the breathtaking 12th-century temple complex of Angkor Wat. Over the week, they’ll be walking up to 25km a day and camping overnight, all to raise vital funds in support of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust!

Many of our trekkers are taking part because of personal connections to our hospitals, or because they work here and see first-hand the difference fundraising makes for patients and their families.

Jointly, the team has already raised an incredible £25,000 for our hospital causes - and there’s still time to support them! 🙌

Good luck Rad, Dawn, Harley, Rebecca and Sandra - we’re so proud of you all and wish the whole team, including our friends at Rosemere, an unforgettable experience! 🧡

Thanks to generous donations, we’ve recently funded brand-new gym equipment for our dedicated staff on our Critical Care Unit - including a static exercise bike and pull-up bar, worth £300 in total! 🙌🏥🚲

Our ICU teams regularly work long 12.5-hour shifts, often four days in a row, and finding time to stay active can be a real challenge. This equipment will give staff the chance to move, stretch, and recharge during their breaks, helping to boost both physical and mental wellbeing.

Many staff have told us how much they’ll benefit from having this available - whether it’s improving fitness, supporting weight loss goals, or simply helping them feel more energised and positive during demanding shifts.

It’s a small addition that will make a big difference to the wellbeing of those who care for our most critically ill patients every day at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 🥰

Thank you to everyone who continues to donate and support our charity - you’re helping us take care of those who take care of us 🧡

Earlier this month, our Trust's annual 'Our People Awards' took place - a wonderful event celebrating the incredible dedication and achievements of colleagues across Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust! 🧡

A huge thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket for the charity raffle on the night! An amazing £2,206 was raised for our hospital charity, with every penny going towards projects that enhance patient care and provide vital support across our hospitals. 🙌

Louisa Graham, Deputy Chief People Officer, said: “The Our People Awards is always a fantastic celebration of the dedication and hard work of our colleagues. It was wonderful to see such enthusiastic support for the raffle, raising a fantastic sum that will make a real difference for our patients and their families.”

We’d like to say a huge thank you to former nurse Julie Appleby and her family for their continued support in memory of her beloved son Daniel 🧡✨

This year’s annual bowling event, held at Vernon’s Sports and Social Club in Penwortham on Daniel’s sister Lucy’s 30th birthday, raised £500, which Julie kindly added to last year’s total - bringing the overall donation to an incredible £1,000!

Julie and her family have been long-time supporters of our Children’s Fund, previously donating an amazing £8,073.25 to help refurbish the Parents’ Room on our Children’s Ward at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - creating a calm and supportive space for families during difficult times 🥰

Daniel was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 11 and spent time on the ward, which became a place of care and comfort for the family. Following his sad passing in 2017 from a brain haemorrhage, Julie has continued to raise funds in his memory, helping create brighter, more comforting spaces for other families.

Thank you, Julie, Michael, and family, for keeping Daniel’s memory shining so brightly 🕊️

Help us ‘Brighten a Bay’ for our young patients! 🧡🌈

We’re launching our brand-new Sponsor a Bay campaign, inviting local businesses, schools, community groups, and individuals to help us transform the bays on our Children’s Ward into brighter, more welcoming spaces for young patients. ✨

Hospitals can be a scary place for children, but with your support, we can turn each bay into a colourful, comforting space filled with warmth and positivity, helping to make hospital stays a little less daunting for children and their families.

For just £300, your sponsorship will help fund paint and themed decorations to create a calm, uplifting environment. As a thank-you, sponsors will be invited to officially open their sponsored bay and have their logo displayed in the bay.

Every year, over 10,000 children and young people receive care through Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - and your support can help make their experience brighter 🥰
