Nick Brownjohn Counselling

Nick Brownjohn Counselling As a qualified therapist registered with the NCPS, I have lots of experience in working with a wide variety of issues.

I can help you move towards change or acceptance of what you cannot alter, thereby helping you feel better and more like you again. I work with adults who have low self-confidence and esteem, who are self-critical and who believe that they aren't good enough. In our sessions, I will help you understand where these feelings come from and how they make you limit your self-belief. Once this ground work is done, we will be able to work on strategies to overcome self-limiting thoughts and behaviours, to enable you to find ways to live how you want. This will then help you do the things you want without worrying about judgement from others. E-mail me now to book an appointment: nickbrownjohncounselling@gmail.com

Thinking about starting therapy? Here’s something important to know...

I’m a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist accredited with the BABCP (British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies), and I want to share why choosing an accredited therapist really matters.

🔎 What does BABCP accreditation mean?
BABCP accreditation is the gold standard for CBT practitioners in the UK. It means I have completed rigorous, specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, receive ongoing supervision, and commit to high professional and ethical standards. To stay accredited, I must continually update my skills and knowledge with regular CPD and reflective practice.

💡 Why is this important for you?
Choosing a BABCP-accredited therapist gives you:
✨ Confidence in competence — You know you’re working with someone who has met strict training and practice requirements.
✨ Evidence-based treatment — Your therapy is grounded in approaches proven to help with anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and more.
✨ Accountability and safety — Accredited therapists follow a clear professional code of conduct and ethical guidelines.
✨ Quality assurance — You can trust that the therapy you receive is consistent, structured, and held to nationally recognised standards.

If you’re considering therapy, choosing someone with BABCP accreditation ensures you’re in skilled and trustworthy hands.

My cats give me so much joy and I appreciate them every single day. What brings you happiness and makes you feel grateful?

Healing doesn’t only happen in the therapy room — it also happens in the quiet moments we give ourselves.

One of the simplest, most powerful ways to ground yourself is by walking in nature. No phones. No distractions. Just you, your breath, and the earth beneath your feet.

When your mind is racing or you feel overwhelmed, step outside. Feel the ground with each step. Notice the textures, colours, and sounds around you. Breathe deeply. Let nature remind you: you are here, you are safe, and you are supported.

Meditation can help when feeling overwhelmed. Just 10 minutes a day can reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional well-being. This is because it activates areas of the brain linked to positive emotions and can lower cortisol, the stress hormone.

Here’s how:

Find a quiet space and sit comfortably.

Focus on your breath—inhale, exhale.

Let thoughts come and go without judgment.

Start with just 5 minutes and gradually increase.

It's not about clearing your mind but rather creating space to breathe, reflect and be present.

Your mind and body will thank you!

Why counselling?

No matter what you are going through, no difficulty is too small or too big to bring to counselling sessions with me. I am here to listen to you, to accept you, to help you see more clearly and to help you move forward.

Sometimes everyone needs some support and maybe you would like help dealing with a significant life event. Perhaps you are suffering with depression and are finding things too hard to face. Possibly the stress and anxiety that you are experiencing are impacting on all areas of your life. Maybe you are struggling to come to terms with accepting yourself. Perhaps a past event has left a wound that just isn't healing. Whatever it is that you would like help with, I will never tell you what to do, nor will I advise you, but I will help you to make changes in your life and help you to feel more in control.

I recognise that it can be hard choosing the right counsellor but I hope it helps to know that as an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (in turn accredited by the Professional Standards Authority), I follow a strict code of ethics and follow stringent professional standards, ensuring that I offer you the best service that I can.
