Myth Buster: Sunscreen is only for Summer!

MYTH: Sunscreen is only necessary when it's sunny or warm.

FACT: UV (ultraviolet) rays pe*****te clouds year-round, meaning your skin is susceptible to sun damage even on cold or cloudy days!

Why year-round protection matters:
· Cloud cover isn't full protection: Clouds can block some UVB rays (which cause sunburn), but a significant amount of UVA rays (which cause ageing and contribute to skin cancer) can still get through.

· Preventing damage: Protecting your skin is an all-weather job, especially if you have a history of sun-damaged skin or conditions like eczema/psoriasis, or are at higher risk of skin cancer.

Keep it simple: Make a broad-spectrum sunscreen part of your daily routine, all 365 days of the year!

Don't Let the Winter Bug Catch You: Understanding Norovirus

Norovirus, often called the "winter vomiting bug," typically increases around November. The symptoms (sudden vomiting and diarrhoea) are miserable but usually clear up quickly within a couple of days.

When to Contact Your GP

While most cases pass on their own, you should seek professional medical advice if you experience:

· Symptoms lasting more than a few days.

· Signs of severe dehydration.

· Blood in your stool.

Key Advice

· Stay Clean: Wash your hands thoroughly and often, especially after using the toilet.

· Stay Home: If you are unwell, do not go to work, school, or visit hospitals/care homes until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have stopped to prevent spreading the bug.

Beat Digital Eye Strain: Remember the 20-20-20 Rule!

Staring at screens all day can strain your eyes and cause headaches. Give your eyes a regular, simple break!

The 20-20-20 Rule:

· Every 20 minutes...

· Look at something 20 feet away...

· For at least 20 seconds.

It's an essential, effective step to keep your eyes comfortable and healthy while you work or browse!

If you live with eczema or psoriasis, you may notice your skin feels drier, itchier, or more inflamed as the weather gets colder. You're not alone!

Tips for Managing Your Skin This Season

· Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise: Apply your prescribed emollients or moisturisers frequently, ideally straight after showering or bathing to lock in moisture.

· Lukewarm Showers: Avoid very hot baths or showers, as hot water can dry your skin out faster.

· Manage Heating: Try using a humidifier indoors to add moisture back into the air.

· Dress Smartly: Wear soft, breathable fabrics like cotton next to your skin, and avoid harsh wools.

If your flare-up is severe, painful, or your current treatments aren't working, please speak to your GP or dermatologist. Don't suffer through the winter!
